It's weird seeing such young people (Bip, ix) in really ancient-looking photos.

I guess people aren't shy about showing themselves as small children. I might follow suit soon.

Here's one of me when I was probably four or five years old, taken in the neighborhood where I grew up. I'm the seated one on the left. There appears to be something fuzzy in my lap; I'm almost positive that's my beloved little mutt dog, Tony. You can see two houses in the background; the one on the left is where I lived (this picture was taken in front of the home of the other guy, Francis, who was, as I can still just barely recall after all these years, using those gloves in order to pretend he was a "mad scientist"). Notice how the grass was all sallow and dry looking? We were in the middle of a severe drought, with water rationing, at the time. My whole childhood seems to have taken place during a drought; as I got older, I had a difficult time making the adjustment to the fact that rain was actually a fairly common occurence for nearly half the year (as opposed to something that almost never happened).

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i296/drsparkles/FrancisKevin2.jpg

Here is a picture of me coming out of the bathroom of my friend Kevin's house, when I was probably 11. He doctored it to make it seem like I'd just taken a dump in there, and the fumes were billowing out. I wouldn't be surprised if even Mansa Musa would have a hard time growing a 'fro like that.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i296/drsparkles/okeefegasgif3.gif

This one was taken when I was 17 (I know that's kinda old for this thread, but I recently turned 37, so believe me, it seems pretty youthful to me). I'm on the left, in the Oakland A's shirt. The aforementioned Kevin & Francis are in the middle and on the left, respectively. We were pretending we were trying to look tough; you know it was a simpler time by simple virtue of the fact that our pretend tough-guy poses didn't involve any gang signs, or any of those other weird, exaggerated hand gestures that people who listen to (c)rap "music" seem to like so much. Francis (he of the "mad scientist" gloves) clearly has the tough guy thing down much more competently than Kevin and I.

The first photo is entitled "Invaders". This is the day we left Communist Yugoslavia to head to Canada. My aunt is holding me, my mother is in the orange and my father is the dude on the right smoking. Across from them are my grandfather and his brother. The photo is taken at Zagreb Airport. Just before boarding, we underwent a training course on how to subvert British culture since we were spies.

This photo is entitled "box of chocolates" for obvious reasons. I was 4-5 years old when this was taken and by this point in my life, I had dedicated myself to rejecting both Windows and Linux in favour of OpenBSD. I already had that underwear model build as is plain to see.

You can already tell by the blank way I stare at the camera that I would fall victim to the multi cult propaganda and eventually kiss a Vietnamese girl, not to mention collect Duke Ellington records. But that's in the far future - right now, in this photo, I'm thinking of nothing more than cotton candy, Fanta, and NWA. That's right, I invented hip-hop long before it came about on the charts. IN MY HEAD.

In loyal Canadian fashion I am just about to run off to hockey practice.

No, no, I meant "brat" only as being raised on military bases. Quite a few of the ones I've come across are interesting people. It may not be the healthiest lifestyle for a kid, though, as you allude to.

I think the reasons are pretty obvious. Something as institutional as a military environment is naturally going to be something teens rebel against. The isolation, being moved around a lot, bouncing to new schools every few years or so, fathers not always around, etc. probably leads to some introspection and attraction to the punk scene, too.

Many babies are born with blue eyes, yes, but they settle on their true colour at around 6 months. So you must have been very little when your eyes were still blue. I don't really know why you felt it was worth the mention since most people can make that claim.

I don't think so. I've seen many people who were born with brown eyes too.
Also, I had blue eyes till I reached like more than one year I believe. I will ask my mum right now.
By the way, another thing: my mum has blue eyes, my dad hazel. My sister had blue eyes till she reached nine years old, and her eyes are now light green, not blue. They were totally blue, and now are green. So yes, eyes change, and not only when you are a baby.

Changes in Eye Color

The iris is a muscle that expands and contracts to control pupil (http://www.thephora.net/definition.php?defID=283) size. The pupil enlarges in dimmer lighting and grows smaller in brighter lighting. The pupil also shrinks when you focus on near objects, such as a book you are reading.

When the pupil size changes, the pigments in the iris compress or spread apart, changing the eye color a bit. Certain emotions can change both the pupil size and the iris color. That's why some people say their eyes change colors when they're angry or loving.

Eye color also can change with age. This happens in 10 to 15 percent of the Caucasian population (people who generally have lighter eye colors). For instance, my once very brown eyes are now hazel, a combination of brown and green. However, some hazel eyes actually get darker with age.

Note that if your adult eye color changes pretty dramatically, or if one eye changes from brown to green or blue to brown (called heterochromia (http://www.thephora.net/definition.php?defID=148)), it's important to see your eye doctor (http://www.allaboutvision.com/eye-doctor/). Eye color changes can be a warning sign of certain diseases, such as Fuch's heterochromic iridocyclitis, Horner's syndrome or pigmentary glaucoma (http://www.thephora.net/forum/glaucoma.htm).

Ultimately, if you don't like the eye color you inherited, you can always change it with colored contact lenses (http://www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/colors.htm). But remember, even colored contact lenses are a prescription medical device and must be prescribed and monitored by an eye doctor. Don't buy them over the Internet or get them from a friend without having an eye doctor's prescription!

http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/eye-color.htm

My own have changed somewhat; they have lost some of their color (greyed) and turned more green.

Many babies are born with blue eyes, yes, but they settle on their true colour at around 6 months. So you must have been very little when your eyes were still blue. I don't really know why you felt it was worth the mention since most people can make that claim.
I had blue eyes until the onset of puberty, then they began to fluctuate between blue and grey and green, settling on green throughout my adulthood. My daughter's eyes are beginning to do the same, as did her mother's.

I have posted this pic here before, but I deleted it for now-superfluous reasons. As a result, I reproduce it for the amusement of the audience.
