once upon a time, in the midst of social chaos, there was a moment of pleasure. it sprang from the hearts of a generation called love.
it leapt, danced and sang all the songs of spring that had layed dormant for hundreds of years...

I live at renaissance faires, as often as I can.:) Yes, a few of these show me as a Pirate Fairy, long story.

Here's how I ended up in such a ridiculous costume. I always liked to dress as a pirate. I love the look. Make whatever fag jokes you want, but I have a lot of fun.:)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Synikul/IMG_0384.jpg
Then this year, my girlfriend and her daughter start a business at one of the fairs selling fairy wings.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Synikul/IMG_0446.jpg
All wings handmade and painted. Each is an individual work of art. These are the best fairy wings you will ever see. They also do custom work, as I type this, my girlfriend is sitting on the couch making a pair of wings for the lead singer of a goth/industrial band called Liquefaction, which will be worn on stage this Saturday.

So a few weeks into the fair, she comes up with this idea that I should wear a pair of wings when I go to some of the shows. I was drunk enough, so I readily agreed to spend more time at the shows. Purely for promotional purposes, trust me.:D

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Synikul/aa4.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Synikul/aa3.jpg
Nothing says "the renaissance" like a hot brunette in a leotard posing up in the air.;)
My main mission though, was to position myself at the shows at the Lorely Tavern, which happens to be right across the street from the foul, evil, loathesome, and depraved Fairy Citadel, our competitor.;)

Other than redirecting potential customers from the competition, there was absolutely no reason at all to be at these shows.:D

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a283/Synikul666/nn10.jpg
Absolutely no reason whatsoever....
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Synikul/nn5a.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Synikul/nn6.jpg
I just hate it when belly dancers lay down right in front of me to demonstrate their abdominal muscle control by making quarters dance across their belly. I feel so dirty.
This was one of the early times I put on the wings. When I asked her for the pic together she says "I'm all sweaty, do you care if I rub my sweaty body against you?" I was unprepared for that, so I said "I don't care." or something stupid like that, when the real answer was "Babe, I'll lick the sweat off your ass if you want me too."
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Synikul/nn7.jpg
So anyway, I started wearing the wings all day, because everyone was looking at me like I was the biggest freak walking on two legs. That's a lot of attention, some of those people would come up and talk to me, usually something like this...
"So, uh, what, uh..."
Me: "Yes?"
"What's your deal, man?"
"I'm a pirate fairy."
"Why?"
"My girlfriend sells wings, you can see her work at Faerystone Creations, over there."
Then they'd usually say something nice, and go away. Except one girl that asked turned to her friends and said "See, I told you there had to be a logical explanation."

But this just wasn't enough for me. I had to have more fun with it. I thought about getting a parasol and turning it into a flamboyantly gay character, but I quickly rejected that idea. Many unique fair characters hand out personalized favors such as pins, stones, or trinkets of some sort, so I came up with my own.:)
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a283/Synikul666/rum2.jpghttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a283/Synikul666/rum1.jpg
Those little bottles of rum cost $8 for a ten pack, and the logo I put on is just a jolly roger with wings photoshopped on the skull. The look of shock and surprise on a person's face is priceless when a pirate fairy gives them a bottle of rum.:D
So it evolved into this...
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a283/Synikul666/me1.jpg
All the fair and vendor employees stopped looking at me like a freak weeks ago, the rum helped with that, but now it's like I'm part of the furniture at this fair. It's odd, but this character is uniquely mine, I've asked around, and nobody has ever done this before, so I'm keeping it. I'd conservatively estimate that around $500 worth of sales happened because of me, and all it cost was my dignity, which I've whored out for much less in the past.:)
So I suppose you could say that capitalism caused this.:p

Rennies and hippies have a lot in common. They're dirty, most are liberal, many either smoke pot or drink to excess, and you'll find many people of questionable sexual morality. At the final cast party last weekend, which is called "keg-drain" because they give away all the remaining beer for free, at one point, my girlfriend and our special new friend Julie were both reaching up my kilt groping me as I sat back with a big mug of Bass Ale and enjoyed the scene before me. It's good to be a fairy.:D

So you're just a regular paytron.;)
The next step is Uberpaytron. That's when you buy a season pass, and start amassing a wardrobe that can only be worn at a fair. When enough people know you, you start getting invited to after hours parties by vendors and cast members. This level of patronage is expensive, so you start thinking of ways to make money at the fair, like a junkie who becomes a dealer to support his habit.
Then you end up like me.:D
Seriously, though, I love the fairs. I need them to keep myself sane. It is so awesome to totally unplug from the real world for an entire weekend and live in a live action fantasy world. I have actually said things like this on Monday mornings. "What happened? How many people died? Wow, I was busy."
Another great thing about the fairs is that, even though it is wildly inaccurate at times, it reminds white people that they do have a history.

You get a lot of wiccans at these things. One of the strangest events I've been to is The Pennsic War (http://www.pennsicwar.org/). It's held by The Society for Creative Anachronisms. At pennsic, you have thousands of people in medieval armor, bashing each other with clubs on a huge battlefield, but there's this strong hippy vibe along with it. Every night is a series of mad parties from sunset to about 2-3AM, just follow the drums, and you'll find a party with free booze and belly dancers. They also have a nude swimming section in the river, which I visited every afternoon. It was nice to jump into 65 degree water when it was 90 degrees with high humidity, but that's where the hippy vibe was the strongest.

I went yesterday afternoon to our local fair and it was cramed. More vendors than last year but then also this troubling trend of less medieval/renaisance and more "new age" crap (Celtic, gnomes, Indian saries, etc...). It also atracts hordes of our local neo-hippies that with their unwashed selfs think they just fit nicely in with all thing medieval. Not even talking about all the morrocan inmigrants who gather at the "Islamic period" corner of the fair making it a vertiable Gehtto.
Interesting highlight of the day was my trial of my Roman Caligae shoes with their historically correct hobnails. Now...hobnails do not mix well with your average stone paved medieval roads that have you most of the time grasping like a drunk on nearby walls as to avoid shameful crashes to the ground. Point being...Roman roads and towns were also paved back then...how on earth did the Roman army manage to assault any city, patrol a town or march down the via Apia if not barefoot? Will have to dig into this further.

We had a Celtic Fest in New Orleans, but it was cancelled after attendence dropped every year. The first year I went there were a couple thousand people there. After about five years, I never saw more than five hundred at any one time, and it was held at a fairly large part of City Park so it looked empty.

I'm sure they would have taken them off and fought barefoot in situations where they would be inconvenient
And they probably had several pairs of normal sandals for each expensive hobnailed pair

Maybe we have a wrong perception as to how a medieval-roman road really looked like. Perhaps (and there are some studies about it) they covered the stone pavement witha layer of dirt that has washed off through the centuries. It just makes no sense otherwise. I can understand that the average legionary would not see much city life but when faced with it he had to find a way to cope with it. Not sure about hoards for spare sandals though.

They were simple but served the Roman empire well; caligae were comfortable, hard-wearing, and above all extremely cheap to make. Then as now cost was a major factor; the soldiers - known as 'caligati' because the officers wore 'calceus', their own personal footwear - had to provide and insert their own hobnails, and indeed were called upon to repair and, if necessary, construct their own sandals. Times were harsher then. The hobnails were useful across country - and for trampling over fallen barbarians - but proved lethal on cobbled streets and over rock, in which case the caligae were often bound with leather for extra grip.
Ambrosio Spinola
05-15-2006, 12:09 PM
Yes, that might be a an ad-hoc solution but a city bound trooper like a Pretorian would hardly be looking like a beggar with pieces of leather around his feet IMHO. I would think that since most soldiers had their own spare hobnails and knew how to fix them up, that they would not have hesitated in tearing those same hobnails off when faced with the need to do some slippery slope duty.

Uh Oh. "Pirate Fairy." Sounds a little gay to me, Ugly. I've always thought that Renaissance Fairs are for gays, just getting cover to dress up like queers when it seems o.k. Ain't it so, Ugly? :)
You have no idea of the positive female attention I draw. The stupid thing about it is that if I wasn't with my girlfriend, the idea of putting on fairy wings would never have occurred to me, but since I'm not single, I can't take full advantage of it. :D

I would drive, actually 6, hours to get to a ren fair because I haven't been to one since last October. Too much reality is bad for my sanity, and sometimes I just need to be surrounded by boobies bursting out of bodices. Our liberal artist friends live in Nashville, so we stayed with one of them, and had a wonderful drunken political bitch fest on Saturday night. Here's a guy who owns a successful small business that provides he and his brother with a middle-class lifestyle, and he was offended when I accused him of being a capitalist. He started it, so he can't complain.:D

I was going through some of last year's pics, and I can put them to good use. With the recent failure of Tamer Of Savages, it's obvious we need a tutorial on how to do a babe thread. You have to have a theme, and blend the babes into it. It can't be "Roman babes", it has to be "A Historical photo essay on Roman fashion". This Renaissance Fair theme lends itself to the idea.

I'll dress up in Desert Storm era camo fatigues, drive through what's left of Cabrini in a rusty IROC, jam out to some "Monster Magnet", and periodically leap out and smack unsuspecting negroes in the face with a push-broom...I can pretend I am Eric Bana in "Black Hawk Down".

Cool, it's not locked. If The Hammer has a problem with the recent posts, I'll self edit.:)
I didn't think there would be much of a problem because it is part of the theme of the thread, most of the women are tastefully dressed, and they're all pics that I took, with the permission of the subjects, not just a bunch of Googled soft-porn.
Back on track....
I would never go to one of these things in a million years, but... interesting.
Why wouldn't you go to one? One of the great things about these fairs is that they're entertainment by and for white people, with a 99% white crowd. Though the presentation is sometimes rife with inaccuracies, and you get the D&D crowd with elves and fairies, it's based on history, and it serves the purpose of reminding the white Americans in attendance that they have a history that goes back farther than 1776.
It amazes me that I've never seen any WN activists attempting to distribute literature at a fair. They'd get kicked out for it, because it's private property, but a dedicated person could blanket the stages, or the jousting field with literature between shows that a lot of people would pick up. It would have more impact if it was somehow themed to the event, because all the white people there, even if they aren't thinking about it in these terms, are in the act of celebrating their whiteness.

Here's where I spent Saturday afternoon.
http://www.kyrenfaire.com
Local news article. I was interviewed by one of the reporters, but they didn't use any of my comments, which is probably a good thing, because I was flaming drunk when he stuck that tape recorder in front of my face.
Renaissance gone wild
Where Vikings meet Henry VIII, it's history in the re-making
EMINENCE - "It's like a big outdoor costume party."
Thank you, Dan Cummins. That might be the most succinct description of yesterday's installment of the Highland Renaissance Festival.
It's like a Civil War re-enactment. But rather than taking sides as Rebs or Yanks, participants dress, talk, eat and play the music of England and Europe 400 or 500 years ago.
Cummins, a Lexington resident, performed traditional Irish music with his wife, Beverly Buchanan and Versailles musician John Skelton. Cummins described the event as a place where 16th-century musketeers meet 11th-century Vikings. "It's not rigidly Renaissance," he said.
It's the kind of event where, if someone needs to know the time, he'll say: "My lord, do you have the hour?" It's the kind of event where you can order a turkey leg as big as your head and pretend to be King Henry VIII, smacking his lips at a feast.
It's the kind of event where Louis Nicolin of Louisville was perfectly at ease dressed as a crusader in a 22-pound chain mail shirt, brown leather boots and black leather gloves.
"I've just always had an interest in the medieval stuff and the Arthurian legend," Nicolin said.
It's the kind of event where Julie Foster of Oldham County said her 5-year-old daughter, Libby, laughed heartily at the "Muckmasters," a performing troupe aiming for all the belly laughs they could by deliberately falling in a mud puddle.
"That was one of the happiest moments I've ever had with my child," Foster said.
That's the kind of experience that festival organizer Ed Frederick hopes people will have.
"It's escape in its purest form because you can step back 500 years," he said.
Frederick, who breeds and trains thoroughbred horses near Midway, got hooked on Renaissance fairs 15 years ago when he went to his first in Texas. He enjoyed it so much that he wanted to put on his own festival.
So he and five partners pooled their money, leased 117 acres of Henry County land, and put on a show. The Highland festival began June 3 and runs each weekend through July 9.
"All my friends that were trainers thought I was crazy," Frederick said. "But I think it's neat that I have something else to do besides the horse business."
Horses do play a part during a jousting demonstration. Greg Oatley of Detroit, who learned to joust in Sarasota, Fla., played a Scottish knight who vanquished three others. He has jousted since 1992.
"You can get seriously messed up," said Oatley, who once had to have 13 stitches after a head injury.
"I've had dozens of dislocations," he said. "I've had concussions. ..."
When asked whether he thought he had been born in the wrong century, Oatley vigorously denied it.
"I love American muscle cars," he said. "And above all else, I love hot showers."
http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/14897425.htm
Oatley is the bald guy in yellow and black in my jousting pics which you will see in subsequent posts.
You can see a slide show of the pics the newspaper took at this link.

It's not my speciality, of course, but I am given to understand that before they left our world forever, they were instrumental in the Great War against Sauron, and the associated political confederation of Humans at that time.

Perhaps if such fliers were found on seats or on the ground there would be committee meetings dedicated just to that problem, and all kinds of strategies on how to keep a watch out for "those white supremacists" (the term used by everyone in the world outside our incestuous little ring of forums :) ).

Some of my best friends are hippy liberals. We have drunken political debates that are very enjoyable. It's all good if you're the kind of person that can like other people, even when you vehemently disagree with them, kind of like The Phora.:)
WNists throwing flyers around would be ejected from the grounds as soon as they were caught. It would be a matter of being slick, and getting maximum possible exposure within a short period of time. They'd have to go into it knowing that ejection was inevitable, but it would be a good audience for them. I'm talking about the normal patrons, not the vendors, managment, and employees, who are quite liberal. I'm a notable exception to that.
As an Indian, you would fit in perfectly wearing traditional Indian dress. If you make it look good, you'd get many positive comments.

Pirates of the Caribbean3 or 2... i actually saw the first one, i like pirate movies.
My concubine makes and sells fairy wings at the big Ohio fair. I first put them on as a drunken lark to attempt to draw more business to the booth. This year, I'm not combining the pirate and fairy thing. Fuck, I hate showing this, but here it is.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a283/Synikul666/IMG_0034-1.jpg
On different days, I will be either a pirate or a fairy. I'm still trying to develope a fairy costume that looks cool, slightly evil, and not flaming gay. The hat is good, as are the wings, the ears just don't work for some reason. My concubine is still working on the new tunic, which will be dark black, and red trimmed, possibly with a purple tabard over it, but that is still up in the air.
I'll still be handing out free bottles of booze, and this year I'll be an integral part of the marketing. We're selling glass fairy dust wands, which are a long glass stem, with a bulbous hollow glass sphere on the end of it, that has a narrow opening that allows a small amount of dust to escape when you wave it. We're getting them from the glass blower at $4 each, wholesale, and selling them for at least $12 retail. The dust is fine silica gel for $30 per pound wholesale. Customers get the filled wand, with free refills, and if they break it, they get a free replacement if they bring back the pieces, which can be put back together and resold. My job is to roam the fair, throwing fairy dust on people. We expect to do $80/day in wands, minimum. It works out to a nice little profit.:)
As gay as it looks, you would not believe the positive female attention I get. If I was single, I could be one of the biggest mansluts ever. Why didn't I think of this when I was single?

I was at Pennsic all last week, and I have no pictures. We were talking about that before we left, it's because at a ren fair 90% of the people are regular one day patrons in everyday clothing, so the people in costume stand out more to me. At Pennsic, everyone is in garb, and it all blends together into its own little world. It never occurs to me to take pictures during the day.
At Pennsic, there's no electricity, no phone unless you bring it(many people don't), no TV or radio, and it's wonderful. Totally unplugged, and living in a fantasy world. Even if all you do is a regular camping or hunting trip, I strongly advise everyone to take a vacation like this, it will be good for your mental health and your soul.
However, I also participate heavily in the soul killing dark side of Pennsic.:D
Pennsic at night is a fantasy world. You DON'T take pictures with a flash at night, that would anger large men with swords. It's pointless anyway. The night magic of Pennsic cannot be captured on any recording device, it can only be experienced. You're walking around in a dark world lit only by fire, down streets lined by tents, pavilions, fences with handpainted art, and some large structures such as ships and castle gates. Everyone is in garb, and crowds of people are roaming around drunk as lords. (This year there were 11,400 people, and it's about 99.5% white.) That's when it hits you, and you sink into the fantasy world. Those moments are what I'm chasing, and it's worth every penny I spend on it. At one point my concubine and I were blundering around drunk, and we wandered into the front gate of a large pavilion that was painted to look like a castle. The gate seemed to be open, and a few people were coming and going. It looked like we walked into a meeting of English knights. There were long wooden tables with benches, all candlelit, and rows of men in armor with tabards that were white with a red cross were seated there. We stopped, immediately realized that we didn't belong there, and left, but it was still a cool thing to walk in on.
The parties are unbelievable. The Hell party returned this year. It featured the host dressed as Satan, two hot young women dressed as batwinged demons(costumes by Brute Force Leather), and a man dressed as Jesus complete with a crown of thorns handing out communion wafers. It had a more uninhibited crowd than most, and was one of the most disgusting examples of drunken debauchery and blasphemy that I've ever personally witnessed. It was way cool.:)
We went to a pyro party that had 12 (I think) competing fire-dancers that were judged on the applause of the crowd. You can't put a price tag on this kind of entertainment because the performers are doing it for fun.
Friday night we went to another party that I have a mixed review of. It was deep in the bog of the campground. It had the best drum and bellydancer circle around the fire pit that I'd seen all week, and two bars that were in a competition with each other. There was only one fire dancer at this party, but she was one of the best. She's a petite, very nordic looking blond, 18 years old, who's been fire dancing for 10 years. She was accompanied by 5 drummers, a mandolin, and what looked like an Australian aborigine playing a digeridoo(sp?) who was making it sound like a synthesizer. It can only be experienced. That party gets an F for location. When you entered the camp, you had to go up a steep, narrow path, until you get to the point where it split, and hot young women are flashing their tits at you to get you to pick which bar you want to drink at. After choosing which tits to follow, you go up another steep narrow path on either side, with tree roots sticking out of the ground. Or you could go forward into a valley between the bars on either side, which is where the 12' diameter fire pit is. The worst terrain imaginable for having a drinking party. It was a bloody miracle there weren't people falling down the hills.

I asked Her Majesty for a picture of her and her Ladies, which she agreed to, but then I offered her a gift of my fairy juice, which she took, but she called me a rogue and a scoundrel, then commanded me to hand my camera to one of her knights, and kneel before her.
I think she drank the fairy juice, based on some eccentricities in her behavior when she was officiating at the final joust.:D

I was standing in the center of the field, but at the rear, for the second joust on Saturday. When I went to the final joust, I had to get there 20 minutes early to get a decent seat. Look at that sea of white. This is no nig white entertainment. Find the fair in your area and go!

That thread has been around since october and I still haven't read it. These are some nice pics TUA, long hairs suits you rather fine. Around here too we have renaissance faires, especially since I live in a region with a lot of castles and history that goes with. I find very pleasant that some people are somehow proud of our medieval heritage.

Great thread UA. :thanks:
In Japan I come upon a fair number of situations with lots of young attractive women, where I can freely stroll around chatting and socializing. In fact it seems easier as a foreigner, as Hachiko can maybe attest to.
I don't find there are usually as many such situations in North America. Those fairs seem to be an exeption. I can't think of many others off the top of my head. I can see why you like those fairs... even when you're not single that kind of free casual interaction is priceless.

In addition to the fun, that's the best part about it. Even some of us Ammurrrikens are aware we have a history that goes back before 1776.
Looks like you had your fun again.
and there's 7 more weekends until the 2006 season is over.:dance2:

The fantasy world side of it makes it even better.
It's late and I'm tired again. United 93 is out on DVD now and I watched it again tonight. I love the scene where they first attack the filthy saracens. They bumrush the first terrorist, then while four passengers are holding him down, another guy comes up and bashes in his skull with a fire extinguisher. You hear the meaty, metallic thud, and then his blood splatters against the wall.:viking:
Easily in the top 3 propaganda films of all time.
A preview of the rest. It might be hard to see, but look at the plate on the left shoulder of the jouster. I can't remember the name of it(it's French), but they are normally smooth for a tournament joust. This team puts a grid on the plate that catches the lance when it makes contact. It causes better hits.
Scroll on down for a pic of a woman with the biggest chest I've ever seen.:D

There were no unhorseings, but before the season is over, I'll have a pic of a knight flat on his ass in the dirt. Lances frequently break, sometimes with injuries. A woman on the other side of the field from me was hit by a chunk of broken lance that flew into the crowd. I couldn't get a good pic of it.
http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6708/img0193zk8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
They do a little joke at one point where the referee says,
"Your majesty, I have an idea for some entertainment in honor of your father (Henry VIII). We'll select a random spectator from the crowd and behead him on the field for the enjoyment of all!" (crowd goes wild, really)
After some humorous negotiation, they decide instead to have a knight cut a tomato off the head of one of the squires at full gallop.

They look pretty mature and sensible for their age.
My image of teenagers nowadays is more like the chicks you see in shopping malls and on MySpace. And it is interesting going back and forth between Japan and North America and observing the same basic template, albeit with smaller local and individual differences.

I've been thinking of going back on Atkins for a few months after the fair season is over.
Is the girl on the far left the same one I was perving on above?
Yes. A funny thing happened with her on Sunday afternoon. We have wands that are larger than the rest for demonstration purposes, and it was her job to wrap the ends of them with brass wire, just to make them look nicer. We carry them around the fair to promote the product. When I left the booth, I said I was going out to make a nuisance of myself elsewhere, when she said, perfectly innocently, "Don't be gone too long, I want to wrap your wand when you get back."
My stepdaughter, who was standing next to me at that moment immediately started laughing. She knows me better. I couldn't stop myself. I said "Baby you can wrap my wand anyti-" that was where she cut me off with that fast paced, cold, acidic tone of voice that I'm sure you're familiar with, being a married man. "An-DREW! I'mNotTalkingToYouAnymore!"
But when I got back, she did indeed wrap my wand, and wasn't pissed anymore. When you're dress like a fairy, the double-entendres fly fast and furious.

Spend my nights with a roll of bubble wrap
Pop, pop, hope no one sees me
Gettin’ freaky
I’m nerdy in the extreme
And whiter than sour cream
I was in AV Club and Glee Club and even the Chess Team
Only question I
Ever thought was hard
Was do I like Kirk

I had a good weekend. All the other weeks, I've only been at the fair on Sunday. I spend all day Saturday with my daughter, then take her to my mother's house and drive to the fair to spend Saturday night and stay all day Sunday. Until now, my daughter only likes the fair for about two hours. Both she and my mother were there on Saturday.
This is the knighting ceremony. I thanked Her Majesty for helping the daughter of a scoundrel rise above her station.

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8792/img0284br8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
My daughter and I will be appearing all over the internet in photos together.
I took her to the archery booth, and she picked it up fast. She fumbled the first 4 or 5 arrows, then she was hitting haybales at 25 feet. I let her shoot $20 worth of arrows before I had to call a halt for financial reasons. There was an interesting incident at the booth. There is a cute redhead working there, and she might as well have had FUCK ME, YOU BIG FAIRY STUD written on her forehead, but I was sober, and with my daughter, so I got out of that conversation as quickly as I could. I rarely go up into that corner of the fair, but I'm planning on going up there when I'm alone and piss drunk.
It's good to be a fairy.:)
My daughter went home with my mother that night, so I was at the fair all night, including the usual party with the typical cast of rogues and knaves. At one point one of the women from Brute Force Leather went down to her booth and changed into a leather bikini top and tight green skirt. She gave her camera to her friend and started doing Bettie Page poses. AND ME WITHOUT MY CAMERA!!!!
On Sunday I made up for the previous day's sobriety. I spent the first half of the day at the booth selling wands and getting progressively more inebriated.
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8071/img0244pi9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I can't sell wings to save my life, but for some reason people buy those things from me. Maybe they're scared. I come home on Sunday nights covered in fairy dust.
Three drunk women came into the booth and they wanted to be sprinkled in fairy dust. One was an older woman, with a young woman that was her daughter, and another that was a friend who was around 30(I don't have a pic of her). They took turns getting right up in my face, rubbing their tits on me in an obscene manner while I poured fairy dust all over them. My concubine was sitting and watching about 6 feet away with an evil smirk on her face. I'm so lucky, I have permission to be as flirty and touchy as I want, but I can't fuck unless she's involved. Unfortunately she wasn't interested in this trio.
After I left the booth, I kept running into these women. Everytime I saw them, the oldest and youngest wouldn't keep their hands off me. At one point they snuck up behind me, and each lifted one of my arms to put around their waist, and grabbed my ass. Chicks dig the tights. It got dirtier later, to the point I had to remove myself from the situation. The mother/daughter combo fuck was there, within my grasp, all I had to do was reach out and take it, and I couldn't, so I introduced them to my friend Nigel. They liked him too. That guy gets more pussy than a toilet seat. We were all in his booth and they were talking about coming back again because it was a "pretty man festival".
It's good to be a fairy.:)

Mazdak, now would be the time to give me soul crushing negative rep.:)
This weekend I found out about 2 other men who are preparing male fairy costumes. I take great pride in that. I did it first! I made it safe for other straight men to wear the wings! They see the kind of attention I get, and they want it. Just another small step in the decline of Western civilization that I can take credit for.:D

I have to ammend this post. The Fairy Citadel is no longer our foul, evil, and loathesome competitor. Now they are our wise and benevolent business partners.:)
We bought that booth yesterday. They're getting out of the ren fair business, but they will still operate their fairy wing production line. We'll be buying some of their wings wholesale to augment our stock because our sales will probably triple.:yay:
The Fairy Citadel was operated by Animal X, a giant in the costume industry. She's designed costumes for KISS and David Bowie.

We're going to have a monopoly at this fair for at least a year, and with this deal, we assumed everything they are allowed to sell, including the prosthetic elf ears, so our friends Mike and Paul at Aradani Studios (http://www.aradani.com) now have the elf ear monopoly. Where else are we going to get ears? We'll be buying them wholesale from Aradani, and collecting the profit. Win-win.
It's great spending 8 weekends a year dressed in funny clothes, drinking until my brain is a pickled mass of goo, surrounded by babes, and making money while doing it.

Well, just be careful with the pickled mass of goo. Too many dead brain cells and you will not be aware of what you are enjoying. Other than that, you have a comfortable niche in life and make money, too. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's commendable.

We finally saw some Trekkies. It was unusual that we didn't get any Stormtroopers this year.
This pair came through our booth on Saturday. The tricorder that guy had made a noise like the props in the show. First he scanned my concubine, and said"Some kind of humanoid/insect hybrid.", then he scanned me and said "Just as I thought, necrosis of the brain." Then they posed for pics.

Really? That's the first time I've ever heard that. I'll be going off the grog anyway, I'm going back on the Atkins diet after Thanksgiving. That pic was taken at about 11:30 PM Sunday night, after I hadn't had a shave and a shower in over 48 hours, had about 10 hours of sleep the entire weekend, and walked at least 6 miles, on gravel, in moccasins, so I was feeling rough.

The Ashville Viking Festival (http://www.ashvillevikingfest.com/)
April 28-29
The Tennessee Renaissance Festival (http://www.tnrenfest.com/)
Not exactly sure when we'll visit this one. It will be a weekend in May, but not Memorial Day weekend. We go there to visit our friends at Aradani Studios (http://www.aradanicostumes.com/). If you go to their page, you'll see a pic of my stepdaughter as the icon for their picture page.
MARCON (http://www.marcon.org/) which means Multiple Alternative Realities Convention
May 25-27 Memorial Day weekend
We're going to be vendors at this one, selling fairy wings and elf ears, which double as Vulcan ears for the trekkies. Cha-ching. Insane parties at this con.
The Kentucky Highland Renaissance Festival (http://www.kyrenfaire.com/)
We'll be at this one at least one weekend in June.
The Western Pennsylvania Fairy Festival (http://www.wpafairiefestival.com/)
June 9-10
The Great Lakes Medieval Faire (http://www.medievalfaire.com/)
At least one weekend in July. My wench's father lives near this one, it's as much a trip to visit him as to visit the fair.
Pennsic (http://www.pennsicwar.org/penn36/index.html)
The biggest and best, the one I look forward to all year. Entertaining and educational events all day, MAD parties all night, every night! You know those hot geek girls, that are about one in ten thousand of the female population? This is their Mecca. They all come here wearing chainmail bikinis. We'll be at this one from August 3-12. I'll be continuously inebriated for over a week.
The Ohio Renaissance Festival (http://www.renfestival.com/)
We're vendors at this one. We'll be there every weekend from September 1 to October 21, except for one weekend, see below.
FaeryCon International (http://www.faeriecon.com/)
October 12-14
I have a feeling that this one will also be a babe fest.
Then I get to sink back into the reality funk that I'm in at the moment until the following Spring. I won't post a ton of pics this year, just a few if they really stand out. I'm going to try to get some pics at Pennsic at night this year without the flash.

Ultra-fine grade silica dust. The white is the cheapest at $19/pound, the green and purple are the most expensive at $26/pound directly from the manufacturer. We give free refills, even if you bring the wand back to us on a different day. At $10 per wand, it works out to a nice little profit.
and what are its effects? does it take one on a journey to neverneverland?
I love all the pretty colours.
It makes children happy. They love to get a wand, or even just a little dust from someone dressed like a fairy. I walk around the fair, without even pitching the product, and give kids a sprinkle of dust in their palm, then I tell them to blow it and make a wish, but keep it a secret. I've stopped full blown temper tantrums in two year olds by doing that.:)

For the fourth time that day, Moonie the Magnificent pulls an audience member onto the stage. The rest of the audience, seated on hay bales, howl with laughter as Moonie puts his newly conscripted assistant through his paces, including clambering onto the assistant’s shoulders to ascend to the slackrope that is strung up in front of a circus tent. Moonie bills himself as “ropewalker, juggler, foolish mortal,” and he is a featured attraction. Now in its 13th year, the North Carolina Renaissance Faire occurs every spring, when a swath of the state fairgrounds in Raleigh is sent back 400 years.
Moonie doesn’t speak onstage; instead he communicates in gestures and whistles. The act takes him from whimsical clown to aggressive crazy in an instant. He has been known to jump into the crowd and bring people who attempted to leave his show back on stage in a headlock. Two days a week, for four shows a day, he will juggle ping-pong balls, hats, knives, flaming torches. Years of practice have given him forearms worthy of Popeye. Every show, the hay bales are packed.
In person, he is calm but his eyes burn. He also acts in theater, television and movies. In the Chicago area, where he lives with his family, he does Chekhov and Shakespeare. On the big screen, he has had small parts in movies such as the remake of The Out-of-Towners. Truth be told, he prefers theater. But the renaissance fair circuit has been very good to him, and he flies in to the fair each weekend.
Up at the Greycat Designs tent, there’s a brisk business in custom hand-made cloaks, gowns, and doublets. Crowds stalk past in the April sun, people of all ages. Civilians in street clothes pushing baby strollers wander by pirates and wenches. Darcy Nair, a multi-instrumentalist who today is playing the hammered dulcimer, sets up under a nearby tree. Over by one of the shacks dubbed the “Olde World Gallery,” the Nickel Shakespeare Girls are preparing to pounce. Three young women in calico knickers and green kerchiefs, they approach and ask customers to name any of Shakespeare’s plays. They proceed to perform a bit from that play while doing acrobatic stunts. Most patrons ask for Hamlet or Romeo and Juliet. Know-it-alls ask for King John or Timon of Athens. “Dueling Pucks” from A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a favorite routine, where two of them race to recite the speech the quickest, all while flying through the air or balanced on their heads. All of this for a nickel, or more: They even accept “paper money, although we don’t know what it’s for.”
The Girls range in age from 16 to 33, united by a love of Shakespeare and physical comedy. Also by the code of the trouper: they perform in rain and wind and mud without complaint. In a downpour one day, when many patrons flee for shelter, they continue their handstands, they continue to recline on the wet ground to reenact, appropriately enough, a scene from The Tempest.
Another act working from the same palette as Moonie is The London Broil. One of their usual stops on the “renfair” circuit is the Carolina Renaissance Festival, one of a few dozen “hard fairs” in the U.S., meaning a fair with permanent structures. (Unlike the North Carolina Renaissance Faire, which is run by a nonprofit, the Carolina Renaissance Festival is part of a family business, Royal Faires Inc., which also runs the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Other large permanent fairs are located in Minnesota, upstate New York, California, and Texas.) Three men who have been friends since high school, the London Broil will answer with the tired joke “Laundry!” when asked what they do the other five days of the week. They can’t stop goofing, can’t get out of character.
For the seven-weekend run of a fair, with four shows a day, the London Broil performs 56 shows in the same place. The London Broil juggle, they play with fire, they balance, they give birth on stage. Upwards of 400 times over a typical year. Every show must feel fresh, as if it’s being ad-libbed for the first time.
It’s not all jugglers and acrobats, of course. The modern version of the renaissance fair started in the 1960s. The festivals started as serious reenactments; anachronism was frowned on. The unadulterated Renaissance isn’t that much fun, though, so early on the organizers mixed in some hippie ideals with business acumen and came up with what are now sometimes called “fantasy festivals.” These feature an odd jumble of performers and merchants, many having little connection with Renaissance Italy or Elizabethan England: belly dancers, Irish traditional musicians, 18th century pirates, monks chomping Scotch eggs. The renfair has ties to many other endeavors: theater, carnival, circus, folk music, county fairs, craft shows, comedy clubs, historical reenactment. The belly dancers and the pirates and the rescued greyhounds share the stage with the folks singing 19th-century Irish drinking songs and the folks painstakingly recreating the court of Henry VIII. As long as it came before the Mayflower, it’ll fly at a renfair.
Behind the scenes, the financial situation is equally jumbled. The denizens of the fair are a web of independent contractors and volunteers. Many of the street performers are in it for the love of it, or are testing the waters locally before they attempt to make a go on the circuit. Some of them are studying theater, or are fresh out of college with their theater degrees, taking the path of least resistance. There are retired college professors who drive all over the country to don armor and teach civilians how to drill in formation with extremely long spears. Many of the musicians and stage performers are solely making money from passing the hat and selling merch; a fraction make an extremely good living that way.
A performer like Moonie with a popular stage show can maintain a “normal” home life elsewhere and fly in to fairs every weekend. Some top performers tour the circuit in $200,000 motor homes. Five two-month fairs make up a typical year for the big acts.
Often it’s not easy to detect who is making good money and who isn’t. A beggar like Scratch, who sits in the mud all day, bashing himself on the head with a pot and blowing a horn with his nose, might be scoring a steady stream of dollar bills, enough to pay for a nice hotel every night, whereas a member of the royal court tricked out as an Elizabethan lady in velvet and pearls might be crashing in her car.
Most renfair workers are not making good money. They manage to subsist by carefully gaming their cost of living. A rose-seller who goes by simply Mary, says, “My cost of living is ridiculously low. I pay fifty bucks for rent for two months.” What that buys is the privilege of pitching her tent on a few square feet of ground in the staff campsite, and use of the communal showers and toilets.
What draws people like Mary to choose that lifestyle? Over and over, the performers and the enthusiasts who regularly attend speak of the fair as a “home” populated by their “family.” It is more real to them than their supposedly real lives. The renfair is unique in that nowhere else do people create physical worlds on so large a scale for commercial gain, where the customers are invited to dress up and participate.
Backstage is a zone of camaraderie, where the exchange of something as simple as a hug, or as complicated as donations raised to pay off medical bills, is common. There are dozens of stories of folks pulling together to help each other out in times of crisis. “I broke down in Illinois and needed $500 to fix my engine,” says T. O. McJunkins, a longtime rennie, a leather-clad pirate in a tricorn hat. T.O. is a person of color who claims his Irish ancestry as primary. (Many African-American patrons and performers at the renfair bill themselves as “Moors.”) When he’s not singing at the pub he’s selling boots in one of the shops. As the sun sets and the final cannon sounds, marking the end of the fair day, he stands near the gate to say farewell to friends he will only see once a year. “Money came in from all over the country. People [heard] I was down, and they sent money to Western Union. I had $600 before I could turn around.”
Musicians and singers like T.O. have a tougher gig than the comedy and juggling stage acts or the street performers pretending to be beggars or nobles. A lot of Irish traditional music, a lot of novelty tunes, and some more authentic Renaissance pieces make up the mix, along with some additional detournement of traditional tunes, a la Fairport Convention or even the Pogues.
While the big stage acts can handle hecklers or rude people, the musicians are more at the mercy of the crowds. Susan Hickey and Gregg Csikos go out every day to play sea shanties and other folk songs to crowds of varying sizes. They break out traditional Scottish songs such as the Mingulay Boat Song, and then go into the Steeleye Span version of “All Around My Hat.” Songs of valor, songs of sadness, drinking songs and silly songs. Sometimes the benches are full and their hat fills with tip money, sometimes not. The happy families come and sit down only to talk loudly during a quiet song, or to change their baby’s diaper, or to flip open their cell phones and gab away to their friends. “Meet me in front of the mead booth!”
Working conditions aren’t just tough on stage. In a tent in the campsite, vocal cords and guitar strings take a lot of wear and tear, too. Waking up to a day that begins below freezing can mean laryngitis and a guitar that never stays in tune. In Hickey’s case, her experience working on a sailing ship helped her prepare for this. “I would start on the boat in Maine in March. It goes down into the twenties and the teens. On top of all the cold, it’s damp. Being on a boat, you learn how to stay warm.”
Another danger of fair life for the performers is the food. Working there, and often living on site, the options are rarely healthy, organic, and low-fat. Sometimes there is authentic Austrian strudel, and sometimes the only choice is a hot dog and french fries. Broon, a tall juggler with stripey socks and classic good looks, consumes energy bars and packaged protein drinks throughout the day to stay in shape and keep his metabolism rolling. He’ll do four shows on his own—juggling, card tricks, fire eating—before teaming up with his friend Moonie at the end of the day for an ad-libbed show. His take on fair food: “Anything fried, shoved on a stick, with ‘ye’ put in front of it, that’s renfair food.”
The peculiar economics of the fair produce situations where even the folks freezing or baking in the tents are wearing custom lace-up moccasin boots that can cost over $1,000. They are a sign of status: Real “rennies” have custom boots, the same way that real jugglers can juggle five balls. They’re also practical—durable and comfortable. For being on your feet and in character all day, says Brad Howard, “quality footwear is imperative.”
Howard doesn’t freeze in the tents, nor does he put up with substandard victuals. He sings for the band Pyrates Royale. They are quite popular, though he hasn’t quit his day job working for a union trust fund office. The band sings sea shanties and songs about the travails of being a pirate, and have been at it for 20 years, long before Disney and Johnny Depp made pirates a cultural sensation. Howard looks the part, burly and shaven-headed in his frock coat, dripping with medallions and other authentic accoutrements. The flintlock pistols tucked into his belt and the cutlass below them appear to be formidable weapons. The irony of playing a bloodthirsty pirate is not lost on him: “I’m a treehugging liberal pacifist, yet I play the most corrupt, capitalistic, freebooting, marauding character you can. It’s escapism for me.” Walking around a fair, he will give many folks the rennie handshake, hands gripping each other’s forearm. “I’ve met some of my dearest, most trusted friends here,” Howard says.
Bandmate Darcy Nair—the aforementioned dulcimer player—splits her time between pirate songs and her own solo compositions, as well as working with other bands. She points out one of the appeals of the rousing pirate band versus some of the more introverted musical acts playing period music: “Reenactors are not necessarily trying to be entertaining. That makes a difference. The big stage acts know how to entertain. A lot of musicians don’t necessarily entertain. They [simply] play music.”
Howard adds: “It’s nice that pirates are profitable, but you do this for love, not money. There are other ways of making money. And you can’t pay someone enough to do it if they don’t love it. People come to a renfair and they’re willing to drop a lot of the standoffishness that they’d normally have. At a circus, you still have some standoffishness. At a renfair there’s a no-holds-barred thing. The audience will open up.”
The folks who aren’t there to work or even volunteer, the ones who simply dress up and attend and love the fair, they still organize into groups. They’ve built up friendships from years of going to the same fairs, and they want to concretize these friendships. Self-styled rogues and wenches, they organize locally in “guilds.”
They are the purchasers of season passes and expensive garb. At a local meeting of the wenches guild, in a nondescript housing development north of Durham, NC, one of the wenches who goes by “Beatriz” notes that it is not uncommon for one of them to have spent “more on boots than on a refrigerator.” Another wench, “MisRed” and her husband keep a Christmas club savings account especially for renfair funds. Guilds talk of “invading” a fair, choosing to drive long distances to attend on the same weekend. While there, they might be engaged in scavenger hunts or what could best be described as organized flirting, activities that are nigh invisible to the average attendee. They exchange roses, sending them to strangers the same way you’d buy someone a drink in a bar. Because many of them know the performers, they also are part of the culture in a way that the average attendee is not. Some have “favor sashes” covered in pins and ribbons, gifts from friends. It’s a precursor to Myspace in that regard, counting friends and relations with physical tokens. When the longtime queen retired from the cast of the Carolina Renaissance Festival, the local rogues guild sent her off with an ambush of roses, kind words, and chaste kisses. Beyond economics, the wenches and rogues have staked their claim to the alternate psychic reality of the fair. They’ve found a ludic space that is as real to them as their day jobs.
For the wenches, especially, these groups act as support networks in times of crisis; they also raise money for charity. Their fundraisers are not that different from a firehouse or church barbecue, except for a preponderance of bodices and kilts, and perhaps a flagon of mead rather than a pitcher of iced tea.
What do the performers think about the fact that they’re working in a world populated by a lot of enthusiasts, who some might call geeks? Broon admits, “There is a geek factor.” But then he amends his assessment: “The people you see here are the same people you see at the grocery store, at the mall. The ones that get really crazy into it, they are like people who get crazy into the White Stripes, rap music or skateboarding or whatever. “
Fair is not all fun and games. Serious things happen there. Patrons get married; Moonie met his wife when he pulled a young lady out of the audience to do a bit with a flower. For someone who threatens to set himself on fire four or five times a day, his responsibilities are very different from the folks living in tents. “I’ve got a mortgage and cars and all that, health insurance and kids and responsibilities,” he says. As the sun sets on the North Carolina Renaissance Faire, Moonie and Broon take the stage together to eat some more fire, sing some more songs, to balance and juggle and to have a good time doing it. The patrons on the hay bales, whether they are clad in kilts and cloaks or in polo shirts and shorts, hang on every word and every flaming torch.
Just another day in an alternate reality. Huzzah.

Those things in front of the fairy bears are fairy babies. Notice the two which are one black and one white fairy in a nutshell, those have been in stock for two years. The white ones were all sold long ago. Notice the babies that are mounted in flowers, two black and one white. There were three white ones at the start of this fair. I told her not to make any more black ones, but she insisted, so I said only make one. I think she made two just to spite me. In a typical renfair crowd, about one out of three hundred people is a race other than white. White people buy white dolls. I told her this, which should be obvious.
"But they're not all racists like you."
Yes they are, even if they don't want to admit it to themselves, somewhere deep down, they will make shopping decisions based on their latent racism. Our tax dollars have funded studies that confirm this.

All the Renaissance fairs in NJ suck. The one I attended last year was full of Dungeons and Dragons nerds and little kids running around. All of the merchandise and souvenirs were made in China and the food consisted of only hotdogs and pretzels.

Everyone's covered up too much at a furry con. Look at this, it's hard to see the glitter in the picture. One of the joys of being the fairy man at fair is that women I've never met before in my life approach me, arch their back to stick their chest out more, and ask me to put fairy dust all over their tits. This cannot happen with furries.:)

I had to Google some Pennsic pages for another forum, and I found this. I hope to have some similar pictures this year. Some of the parties are dangerously insane, it's a pyromaniac's wet dream.
http://www.pennsic.net/cgi-bin/pennsic/photos06.cgi?cat=Parties
If you scroll all the way down in the thumbnail window, the last five pictures are of the chick I described in this post.
It was a bloody miracle there weren't people falling down the hills.

american and europeans don't rape?
American and European Whites do not consider women showing a little cleavage to be in severe danger of being raped, as you claimed to perceive the two women above. That would strongly suggest that you either have a very warped view of reality, or you've been raised in a barbaric social atmosphere where men would behave like that towards women merely because they were dressed somewhat provocatively. Some White men do commit rape, and they are regarded as horrible criminals who are punished very harshly in the USA (albeit less so is on some European countries, alas, where crime of all varieties often goes under-punished). Your remarks seemed to imply that the rape of such women who are merely dressed somewhat provocatively constitued normal behavior, rather than a gross violation of moral decency and the criminal law, as it would be perceived in the West.
I hate the Zionists myself, and strongly support a free & independent Palestine (as well as having been srongly opposed to the war in Iraq since before it began), but comments such as yours are an excellent example of why so many people in the West hate Muslims, and likely always will.

the Quran sais woman should cover them selves. this makes man not commit rape or think about sex.
also women should not be alone in places where there are men, only with her husband or other witnesses.
no one would marry a women that was raped, she is defected and not virgin, now if she had being covered and not alone with men this would'nt happen.

Muslim men rape way more here in Norway, and we have statistics that prove it.
During the Viking era, the only acceptable form of punishment for rape was death, while murder could be compensated with silver.
Group rape is stricly a muslim or negro fenomenon, as we did not know that it existed before muslimes and niggers turned up.
Don't get me wrong, I want the muslimes to behave like animals, as getting the norwegian population to hate the muslimes, is far more important than a few norwegian women getting raped in the long run.

Which is fine in the Middle East; Middle Easterners should not come to Europe, America, and other Western nations, but rather stay in the Middle East (particularly those Middle Easterners who embrace the values of their home region), and White Europeans, North Americans, and Australians should leave them alone and in peace, and otherwise stay out of the Middle East. The Ottoman Empire conquered Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Cyprus, plus much of Romania and the Crimean Peninsula, and marched all the way to the gates of Vienna. Some of those Balkan territories didn't gain their independence until 1912. And let's not forget that the Ottoman Empire was just the Muslim version of the previously Greco-Christian Byzantine Empire which was conquered by the Muslims in 1453. And then there's the 700-year occupation of nearly all of Spain, and who knows how badly things would have gone for the West had Charles Martel not defeated the Islamic Moorish imperialists in Tours (southern France). Not to mention all the White Christians taken as slaves by the Muslim Corsairs, from places such as the Italian Peninsula, Sicily, Sardinia, France, Corsica, the Balearics, Portugal, the British Isles, Norway, and even Iceland. America's first foreign war, the Barbary Pirates War of 1798-1810, was our response to a war of Islamic aggression from the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Emirates of Algiers, Oran, Tunis, Tripoli and that other Libyan city (Benghazi, or whatever its called). I think there's plenty of guilt to go 'round.

I think I posted it before, but I can't make it to the Fairy Fest at Slippery Rock in June, schedule conflict with my stepdaughter's high school graduation.
But then there's this one.
Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival (http://www.pittsburghrenfest.com/)
I can't vouch for the quality of it because I've never been there, but it's under new ownership. It went bankrupt last year because of poor management, according to the vendors I know that worked there, but the owners of the Colorado festival bought it and have already invested a lot of money in new construction. Many fair goers say Colorado is one of the best fairs in the country.
Except for the first weekend, Pittsburgh runs during the month of September, which is when we'll be busy at the southern Ohio (http://www.renfestival.com/) fair, but I'm going to plan a trip to Pittsburgh for a day to see if it would be a good place for us to expand. We could survive sending two people to another nearby fair to work for a few weeks. I'll probably have our Director Of Marketing with me for the visit. That's really her title, you may have noticed her picture over and over in this thread.

One weekend fairs always suck.
Admission
Adults: $7.00, Children under 12 years: $3.00
As with most things in life, you get what you pay for.
Number of Booths / Stages
50 / 1
One stage is always a bad sign.
You don't get the good vendors at these small fairs because the expense of travelling to them can't be made up in such a short period of time. Knock it if you want, but there are a lot of patrons who go to renfairs primarily for the shopping. They like being able to buy the odd items and clothing in a brick and mortar type shop instead of a web page.
Go to this one when it opens Maryland Renaissance Festival (http://www.rennfest.com/). I've never been to it, but my wench has, and she says it's one of the best. It's just south of Baltimore.

It's a natural for fairies. If you're the kind of person who would enjoy strolling through the paths of a huge flower garden, it would be great, but that isn't me. The crowd is totally different from a renfair crowd, with a lot of senior citizens. There was nothing worth taking pictures of, except for the people that I was with, and many of the patrons seemed to feel the same way. We couldn't make a move without cameras following us. A professional photographer was there and set up a tripod across the path for an hour taking pictures of us. I only took a few. It's just something you have to deal with, because like it or not, when you're there in costume, you're part of the show.
I still haven't been to a big renfair this year, and it's driving me mad! We've done three stupid little one weekend fairs, one sci-fi con, and one small fair in Kentucky on the weekend of a NASCAR race about 20 miles away, it was like a ren ghost town. I'm trying again this coming weekend to go to GLMF, and nothing had better fuck up the plans this time.

This was at The Wooing Contest, part of the "Romance" theme weekend. I usually can't tell the difference from a theme to a regular day. Volunteers from the crowd could go up and hit on one of two cast members, judged by applause from the audience. I was in pirate garb that day, and I have a big blue whip that I wear on my belt. I walked up to the stage, removed the whip from my belt, spun it around and cracked it on my hand, then threw it at her feet as I stepped up on to the stage. I dropped to one knee, took her hand and said "Gimme some sugar, baby.", before kissing her hand. The crowd loved it, but I lost to Jack Sparrow, I hate it when he shows up.

After a record breaking opening weekend, it rained the second weekend, and the place was like a ghost town. I was in fairy garb that day, and before the crowd left, I spent about an hour walking around in the downpour taunting men who were hiding under awnings "What, a delicate little fairy like me can handle the rain, but you can't?"
The cast started playing in the mud to pass the time, until the queen arrived and chastised all of them. I didn't get the camera out until the rain stopped for obvious reasons.

I really want to attend one of these events now. I'd dress up and everything.
Wearing the clothes is what makes it worthwhile. The reaction you get from everyone is different. It can be expensive though. That's my wench and I with a couple I met on another forum devoted to renfairs. I'm wearing over $600 worth of garb in that pic. It's worth every penny.:)

I get the impression that a thoroughly decent bunch of people turn up to things like this. It looks very - and I have to say it - white.

My girls. All of them are 18 now, they started this business when they were 16. I won't say which is which, but here are the descriptions.
One is a semi-professional actress, and is starting college to get a theatre degree in costume design.
One speaks three languages, and is starting college for a business degree.
The one that raised the startup cash through saving and a grant from her high school business club is also going to college for a business degree. In her free time, she competes nationally in rockclimbing. I've seen pics of her clinging to a cliff.
Another, also a future business major, travelled to another state last year to take part in an international teenage marketing competition, and took second place.
The last is going for a double major in business and international studies. A devout Christian, she spent most of this summer doing missionary work with her church on a Sioux reservation.
All were honor students in high school, and are incredibly intelligent and mature. I've always dealt with them as adults, because they deserve that kind of treatment. They all tolerate my bigotry and bullheadedness, even though they don't agree, and still seem to enjoy my company.
It's relevant to the subject at hand, so here's another description. One's a virgin, one's a self-described slut(I argued with her, but she insisted), and the rest are varying degrees between those.
One of the ways I judge things is to try to put myself into the given situation. "Muslims R meen to wimmins. fuh they suck" or whatever the comment was. It's crude, but yes, that's exactly where I am. Though it's a far-off situation for America, it's almost at hand for Europe. Muslims expand, and spread their religion anyway they think they can get away with it. They have a long and glorious history of conquest, with no sign that the desire to do that will change anytime soon, so it's not entirely idle speculation.
What if they were subject to Islamic religious values, enforced by law? None of this could have happened. They'd have been married off by now, squeezing out little martyrs. There wouldn't be a picture with smiles on their faces. How many women who have the potential to be like them are in shackles in some godawful muslim shithole somewhere in the world? Or worse, in the West, living in their little family clan while doing their best to help spread the mental disorder that they were raised into? How many people reading this are thinking "Yeah, that's what should happen."?
I understand all the pitfalls that a society can, and does, suffer from when the women aren't controlled, but because of my personal experience, I can't stop seeing that as a good tradeoff. I have a daughter of my own. I love three of those girls as if they were my own daughters, and I'd kill or die for any or all of them.
I guess I am a feminist nancyboy. Oh well. At least you know why.

@WFHermans
Did you see in the ren fair thread where I told you to check back? Here it is. I didn't even get to it until 4:30 this afternoon. I was busy most of the day Saturday laying the groundwork for getting some pussy. BTW mission complete, my wench and I have a new girlfriend.
If you don't have priorities, you'll never get anywhere in life.
We went to a party at Mike and Paul's booth, BTW buy their stuffhttp://www.aradani.com, after the girls' rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody two of them and Paul grabbed my stepdaughter and gave her an improvised tramp stamp with sharpies. She was pissed for a minute or two, and could only wash it off with hand sanitizer gel that Paul had a huge bottle of. Somebody said that hand sanitizer was flamable so we lit some on the ground. Then Mike walked in and said "Cool! I can draw KISS with that!" So we all went out behind the booth where Mike drew KISS with big gobs of hand sanitizer on a leftover piece of foam insulation board and set fire to it. We had a big, flaming KISS logo, and it was cool for about 30 seconds, then we had a big, burning, melting piece of foam insulation board, next to a wood building.
Not cool.
Mike threw it down and stomped it out. That was funny. After the party we went back to our booth, but decided to go out at 2AM and fuck on the pirate ship. It's a huge mock up of a ship, about 70 feet long with the rigging, where the cast pirates do a stunt show. My wench always wanted to fuck while clinging to the mast of a ship in the moonlight, and now we've finally done it.
On Sunday two of the girls had to leave early, so I had to work in the shop most of the day. I didn't get out until 4:30, the sign is crappy, I scribbled it quickly, then went out to talk women into holding it. I had to persuade all but one of them with rum.
So, it looks like everyone had fun here?
@ Overwatch
That's the fun you're missing out on.:jam:
Here's the WFHermans collection, it would have been a lot better if I could have put any time into it.

Time for a few more.
This was a custom job. It was traded for some handmade fairy dolls to hang in the shop as decorations. I just realized I set my mug down in the pic. That's a 32 oz. mug, and it has a generous amount of ice, with one part Captain Morgan Tattoo, and two parts diet coke. To me, that's "one drink". Kids, don't try this at home.

BTW, don't ever mess with her. That piece of long, black, wire wrapped jewelery she's wearing is a concealed weapon. I gave it to her for her birthday last year.

My camera has about a 2 second delay after you push the button, so I got this one by accident when she moved to remove the clothespin that was holding the SOLD tag. She's a living Barbie doll.

Saturday night, my wench and I, her daughter, and the girl whose pic I just posted in the Random Fact thread left the fair 30 minutes early, and I had to drive 80mph all the way to Granville Ohio just to get there on time. The Mediaeval Babes (http://www.mediaevalbaebes.com/) were performing at Dennison University. They had one other show in Ohio, then back to London. If you ever get the chance to see them live, don't miss it. They sing period poetry in it's original language i.e old English, old Spanish, and Latin mostly. It's sung to original music played on period instruments, they sing like the angels, oh yeah, and they're HOT.:naughty:

The other event I attend, Pennsic, has about 5000 people who wear all that armor and more while beating each other with sticks. You have to see it to believe it. Can you imagine actually fighting someone while wearing what you have in the pic?

The Ohio Renaissance Festival (http://www.renfestival.com/index.html)
It starts in two weeks, I'm going to be crazy busy until then. If you don't visit at least once, I'll be forced to conclude that you're raging homosexuals.:D
With proper planning, I might be able to get you in free, and you'll get to meet and party with all the wacky weird people that you've seen pictures of.
You have my word of honor(which is one of the few things I have going for me in the realm of morality), that if you say no pics of you, I won't take any. I may be an asshole, but I'm not a rat bastard. I had permission from the subject for every picture I've ever posted.
The beer and rum are on me. I'd think you'd want to visit just for the entertainment.
