Do you consider yourself paranoid?
I do. I tend to be really sceptic and often think that people are lying to me. However I do trust the people close to me, I still often have problems really believing what they're saying.

Trust me, Diktator. I will lie to you only when it is to my advantage, and that's the truth.

I don't fully trust anybody unless they have earned my trust usually through knowing them well for a long period of time and they have demonstrated that trusting them is Ok. People will step on you or use you to get what they want. I am not going to say I am innocent of this myself. Anyone who trusts other people completely is a nice fool who is begging to be someone's sucker.

I said yes because my behavior has been labeled as such; however, I don't personally consider my behavior paranoid per se.

This is interesting.
I never equated mistrust with paranoia.
To me, paranoia is based on ungrounded fears. The result of irrational evaluations of situations and/or people.
If a person has evaluated the fact that it is not wise to trust anyone who one does not know very well, this is not paranoia. This is an objective assessment.
As we go through life, we all learn to be not so trusting the hard way.
We teach our children not to trust strangers for good reason.
And so if skepticism and mistrust is the definition of paranoia, yes, I am paranoid.
:thanks:
A good friend of mine who is also a psychiatrist, has a sign on her door which states in bold red:
JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE PARANOID DOES NOT MEAN THEY AREN'T AFTER YOU!

If by paranoia we are talking the CIA watching me and black helicopters flying over my house, etc. than I voted wrong in the poll.

That is definitely paranoia unless of course the CIA is watching you and black helicopters are flying over your house.

I am rather slow to trust people I don't know personally. This is normal (and wise), but that does not make one paranoid.

I trust everyone, mostly. There is usually not much to lose anyway. It's not always about trusting a stranger with your life or something important. More of an ego thing, I think.
Poor paranoid people don't like to be seen as a sucker. Yeah, no one could ever fool you if you don't trust them, right? Maybe that is naive. Don't ride your bike without a helmet.
Ever know for sure that someone is lying to you about something very, very important, but choose to take it as truth regardless? See what happens. If it really eats at you that people can't be trusted, you're a real sucker anyway. :D

I'm sorry for not using the right term then. Let's just say sceptical. :)

I do not associate paranoia with trust .
A most curious poll, one that I am loathe to trust......but that may seem paranoid.

Yes, I am generally 'paranoid' in that I assume people are dispositioned towards hostility against my person. i don't think the CIA is watching me but I suppose it's entirely possible.
