LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Celebrity Paris Hilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Thursday after driving erratically and failing a field sobriety test, police said.

Shortly after midnight, officers assigned to a driving-under-the-influence task force spotted Hilton driving erratically in Hollywood and pulled her over.

"She exhibited the symptoms of intoxication," LAPD spokesman Irv Isabella said.

Hilton, 25, was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which she failed, and was arrested and charged with DUI, a misdemeanor.

Isabella could not confirm whether Hilton was handcuffed, but he said it is standard procedure to handcuff people arrested on charges of DUI.

Hilton was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

"We have faith she will appear in court," Isabella said.

Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz, confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest, the Associated Press reported. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent.

"She's absolutely fine," Mintz told AP.

At the time of her arrest, Hilton was driving home from a charity event where she had one drink, Mintz told AP.

She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, AP reported. The driving under the influence symptoms were "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued," Mintz said.

In June, Hilton had a fender-bender accident when her Range Rover backed into a car in a parking garage after a shopping trip, AP reported.

I think it goes without saying that she will be treated better than Mel Gibson. The media doesn't take too kindly to anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist Traditionalist Catholics whose father never ceases to explain his NWO conspiracy theories. I also think it's obvious that she will be treated better than other offenders. Here in America, money and fame speak for themselves when it comes to the courts. The rich and famous could do things that I would be lynched for, only to get community sevice or a slap on the wrist. Besides, she has her age and especially gender working in her favor. It is possible that you can get drunk from just one drink. When I had to learn the theory of my drivers license,the book said that there are people that get drunk after just one beer and that there are people that can drink (let's say) 15 beers without showing that they are drunk.
