Do you like the Scottish people?

Felix the Cat

Why this sudden interest in Scotland Ix?

Jonathan

The Scottish (like most nations) are diverse enough to make this question useless i.e. Some Scots are O.K., others are not.

Ixtab

Some Scots are O.K., others are not.I agree.

And please don't use the Latinate abbreviation "i.e." when you can just as easily use the English expression "that is".

Felix the Cat

And why would anyone "hate" the Scots?

Are you including Ulster Scots in the category "Scottish people"?

Ixtab
11-06-2005, 01:29 PM
And why would anyone "hate" the Scots?I don't know. I have not met anyone who does.

I like the Scots, very similar to the Irish in many ways. As with all countries, some good people, some bad.

I must add I met the cutest Scottish girl ever not to long ago as well and the stories she told me of Scotland were amusing. Seemed like a fun place so just to add that.

Geist

What similarities do you most like?

Generally easy going, fun people who enjoy getting intoxicated etc. Very similar lifestyles I guess.

As far as serious national characteristics which is probably what you are looking for I cannot really say.

I have never met a Scottish person, so I can not say; however, based on the fact they seem like decent enough people so I'll say I like them.

billy Connolly is from Scotland (although his parents moved there), so this says everything. Also: Mel Gibson beat the hell out of the english in the name of Scotland. Scots are pretty cool.

Scots and Scottish are not synonymous. the Scottish are the dregs of the English people, with a bit of Irish. And the Irish are the dregs of the White Race, as you know. So no, I don't like the Scottish people. I don't hate them but that is the option that I chose. I just regard them with disdain and contempt.

Johnson

Largely indifferent, though they do tend to exhibit the most negative stereotypes, such as being drunk, being violent, and being very obnoxious tourists. Like the English, but less intelligible.

They have good women, although the men are brawlers armed with an array of strange weaponry that they call funny names "chib" being one of them.

Who would they be?

The Easy Club were very good in their day. These people (http://vassfamily.tripod.com/) sound interesting (sample (http://vassfamily.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/thediamond.mp3) and another (http://vassfamily.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/viking.mp3)), but it's frustratingly hard to get info about them (they don't seem to respond to email).

Old Blind Dogs (http://www.oldblinddogs.co.uk/).

Too bad their lead singer, Jim Malcolm, quit recently. :(

Tha Jacobites were largely a Catholic-based movement. Lenny. Rob Roy was Catholic himself I believe. Now Perun's trying to claim that Scotland is a Catholic nation?  Keep dreaming idiot! One small group of rabble-rousing traitors and rebels do not make an entire nation Catholic, any more than the presence of some muslims in english inner citys makes England a muslim nation

Catholicism is an alien hostile religion to Scotland, see here:

Scotland has to Catholicized, not 'Christianized' (http://www.thephora.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7848)

I never claimed Scotland was Catholic you idiot. Im well aware that Scots are by and large Presbyterians.

However, that doesnt mean that I as a Catholic cannot admire the Scottish nation, and pointed to the Jacobites and Rob Roy as proof. And since the Jacobite cause and Rob Roy both figure heavily in the Scottish identity; it only further proves my point.

One small group of rabble-rousing traitors and rebels

Traitors? By seeking to restore the rightful dynasty back to the throne? King James II by any and all accounts was the rightful king of England, not William of Orange(how cute, you Protestants had to invite a foreign ruler!!!!).

Yes, they can wear kilts and still look manly. :)

Seriously though, I've heard a lot of good stuff about Scottish people, especially from my friend, Amanda. She visited Scotland a while back.

I haven't met any personally but I voted "I like" because of what I've heard.

The majority of my ancestry is Scottish.

The Scottish stereotype I like best is that of "engineer"; during the
Great Age of Steam, it was normal for just about any steamship to
have a Scotsman running the Engine Room. The tradition carried right
up to the twenty-third century with LtCdr Montgomery Scott as
Chief Engineer aboard USS Enterprise (NCC-1701).

He was a Roman Catholic, ipso facto he was an Enemy of britain. He would've forcibly re-Catholicized Britain, packed the government and military with Catholics, and brought Britain under the iron heel of Rome.

a foreign rulerBetter a foreign Protestant than a native Catholic. Similarily, better foreign fruit than domestically-produced rat poison. Am I right folks?

He would've forcibly re-Catholicized Britain, packed the government and military with Catholics, and brought Britain under the iron heel of Rome. His Most Catholic Majesty, James II, was the last rightful ruler of Britain, since falling victim to a City of London-Amsterdam organised coup d'etat, that led to the installation of a heretic usurper.

As Basil himself confirmed, yes he was. He was the rightful heir to King Charles II, being his brother and Charles had no legitimate sons.
