This is The Phora:

The Phora is a 'free speech' forum where people from all walks of life and ideological persuasion meet for discussion of all the issues of the past, present, and future.

The Phora as such does not endorse any political, religious, or racial opinion, except for the right to dissent through speech and/or thought.

'Free speech' does have its limitations at The Phora, of course, as anywhere- but those limits on free speech regard one's conduct, not one's political, ideological, ethical, or religious opinion. Additionally, posting material of a gratuitous sexual or ghoulish nature is forbidden(e.g., babes threads, ogrish.com...)

Registering:

In order to shield ourselves from spambots, malicious multiple account creation, etc..we have created a manual registration procedure. Once you register a new account you will still have to go through a manual approval. We need you to fill out as much as possible in your profile so that we might be able to distinguish you from one of the above malicious cases. Without Administration personal approval none becomes a regular "registered member" able to post and interact. Since this is a manual, one by one case, procedure, it might happen to you that it takes longer than desired to approve your account, please bear with us as we catch up. Not filling anything out in your profile might lead us to mistake you for a spam account and not give you total access. Act acordingly. ;)

Layout:

There are four groups of forums at The Phora:

The Academy, also called the highbrow fora, which is sorted into several different spheres of interest. Good conduct here is expected, and the rules here are enforced the most strict. 'Flaming' or attacking another member here is forbidden, no matter the circumstances. Threads should stay reasonably on topic.

The Pub, also called the lowbrow fora, is a handful of fora catering the more mundane and frivolous topics. Some light 'flaming' is permitted here. Rules enforcement is more lax here.

International Forums, which consists of several forums centered on a particular nation. Moderation is less standardised here, and enforcement depends on the particular moderator for that forum.

Private Forums, which are themed around one ideology or theme. PM an administrator if you wish to be added to a Private Forum which is restricted.

Reporting bad posts:

We rely heavily on members to report bad posts which violate forum rules. To do this, hit the 'report bad post' link or http://thephora.net/report.gif icon at the upper right hand corner of the offending post.

Reputation system:

The reputation system (repsys) is an optional part of one's experience at the Phora. Members are free to disable their reputation as they see fit. The reputation system is essentially a way of delivering a quick message to the poster, generally to inform him that you liked, or did not like, his post; if you are offended by someone's reputation comment, you are advised to disable your reputation or put the users on ignore, which will in fact make it impossible for the offender to spam you. Staff will only get involved with the repsys if someone is issuing threats, sending links to pornography, or sending forbidden personal info though the repsys.

Please read our revised rules and guidelines for posting (http://www.thephora.net/forum/announcement.php?f=82)
