The vast majority of Montenegro's citizens back country's membership in the European Union but not in NATO, according to latest opinion poll.
Podgorica's daily Repulika quotes the opinion poll, conducted by Center for Democracy & Human Rights, showing an overwhelming support to Montenegro's EU entry.
76.5% back Montenegro's membership in EU.
36.9% back Montenegro's membership in NATO.
The United States actively supports Montenegro to join NATO's Partnership for Peace (PfP) Programme, i.e. NATO pre-accession programme.
Russia, however, reiterated on several occasions that it sees no reason for Montenegro to join NATO.
Such disappointing news. Will they allow Montenegro into the EU and not NATO? Might be, as EU seems to be becoming at least a little independent from USA. But I thought Montenegro was friendly to Moscow?
