Blue-Eyed Men Prefer Blue-Eyed Women

Blue-eyed men prefer blue-eyed women, apparently because eye color can help reveal whether their partner has been faithful, researchers said on Monday.

{snip}

Under the laws of genetics, two parents with blue eyes will always have blue-eyed children, it said. So a blue-eyed man can know his blue-eyed wife or partner has cheated on him if their child has brown eyes.

“Blue-eyed men may have unconsciously learned to value a physical trait that can facilitate recognition of own kin,” the scientists said in the journal Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology.

The scientists asked 88 students to rate the attractiveness of models based on pictures manipulated so that half of them had blue eyes and the other half had brown eyes. The blue-eyed men in the group showed a preference for blue-eyed women.

But brown-eyed men, who cannot find any clues about paternity from a child’s eye color, had no preferences by eye color. Women showed no preference for brown- or blue-eyed men, irrespective of their own eye color.``````````

LoL.. it probably has more to do with familiarity, than a cheap way to test for unfaithfulness. The brown-eyed people probably show no preference overall because many, if not most, of them had one blue eyed parent, anfd therefore are intimately familiar with both eye colours.

You would have to be partially aborted to believe in this nonsense.

What if the women only cheat with blue eyed men?

Eye colour skips generations too. My dad has hazel eyes and my mom brown but I (and my brother) have green because my grandfathers on both sides had blue/green eyes. So if I married a girl with green eyes for eg. it is very genetically possible that offspring could turn out with brown eyes. Phenotype is different from Genotype. I have brown eye genotypes in my pool and I'm sure many blue eyed people do as well. So if they have a brown-eyed kid, they could just as easily be taking after one of their brown eyed grandparents or something.

That isn't the point, if your partner has blue eyes, and you have blue eyes, and your baby is born with brown eyes, then you know something is a little fishy.

Think of it this way: If you were white, your partner is white, and your baby is born brown, would you not be a little suspicious?

True, but if the baby is born with blue eyes, her fidelity has not been proven by any means.

The possibility of blue eyes' divulging unfaitfulness is hardly a criteria for choosing the woman one is going to marry, and I find it quite unbelievable that anyone else would deem it to be so either, consciously or otherwise.

Let them speak for themselves, I have blue eyes, and the color of a womans eyes are the least important thing to me.

their are more features about a woman then the color of Her eyeballs;)

Or maybe... just maybe... people look for their own kind in a mate... Odds are if your wife cheated on you it's going to be with another guy with blues eyes since their entire village probably had blue eyes.

Jealous man seeks partner for meaningful relationship. Tall, handsome, blue eyes, looking for blue-eyed women only.

Why? Because men with blue eyes are drawn towards blue-eyed women, and prefer to choose them as their partner because this can provide reassurance that the woman's babies are theirs too.

When surveyed, blue-eyed men find pictures of women with the same eye colour significantly more attractive than those with brown eyes, whereas neither brown-eyed men nor brown-eyed women show any preference for eye colour, Bruno Laeng of the University of Tromsø, Norway, and his team have discovered.

The effect is seen in real relationships, too. Blue-eyed men are more likely to be romantically involved with a woman of the same eye colour than they are with brown-eyed women, or brown-eyed men are with a partner of any eye colour (Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology, vol 61, p 371).

Blue eyes are a recessive trait, Laeng explains, so two blue-eyed parents should produce a blue-eyed child, while a child with any other eye colour must have been fathered by another man. Blue-eyed men seeking a partner unconsciously know this, Laeng claims, and select women of similar eye colour to ensure they can more easily spot if they have been cuckolded.
