A "lost Victoria Cross" found when clearing up the effects of a dead relative.
By all accounts the VC had not been seen for almost 60 years.

To be sold by well known Militeria auctioneers , Spinks.

Estimates are that it may sell for a sum approaching £80,000.

I wonder what price a Knigyts Cross with Swords and oakleaves would go for ?
Some how I can't see £80,000 for the RK , Swords and oaks.
Is the VC even rarer than the Swords and Oak leaves level of the RK ?

The VC is perhaps the one awards which crosses all barriers of rank.

What kind of cretin would sell such a fine award that belonged to an ancestor of his?

One who either has no appreciation at all , and I mean none or one who needs the money.
If it is part of an estate and everyone wants a share - selling is what happens , if no agreement can be made or if was not willed.
I have no idea who has ownership of it - but selling it - I would think about it very hard unless there was a pressing need.
£80,000 pays a lot of bills , helps put a family through university etc.
