I hate to say it, but I don't find any of these terms insulting, they are simply descriptive terms.

I have been called the first four by different people.
I don't find any of them insulting. The first two(neo-con, jew)amuse me, the other two(racist, anti-semite), which I hear more frequently, I am indifferent to.

Formalist... now them there is fightin words....

Isn't that how the Hatfields and McCoys got started?

Great great great grand-daddy McCoy called Great great great grand-daddy Hatfield a formalist and Mr Hatfield just could not contain himself, and the rest is history. :D

You should add "name the jew freak" to that list. "race traitor" is another one.

I think you're a bit paranoid about it though. Remember that time that I was going on about Nationality and next thing you exploded about middle-class and working-class? It can be tough in a country of begrudgers like Ireland, but I think you make it hard on yourself a bit too Betsy.

Idealist -- I tend to say it with venom dripping off my tongue. I take pride in being pragmatic, idealists are either mental lightweights or shallow verbal bullies.

Hmmm.. I don't remember that at all, but it sounds like something I'd explode about.
People do begrudge the middle classes though. Even the middle classes manage to begrudge the middle classes.

Options 3, 4, and 8 are compliments IMO.

Sorry to disappoint you, none of these seem that insulting.

If someone called me a racist or anti-semite or neo-con, my reaction would be something like "Hmm, that's interesting. Why do you think so?".

The rest are laughable.

"Racist" is easily the most annoying. There's an egalitarian tendency to treat the word as if it were an inherent negative, rather than a neutral term to describe a belief system. These are the people that slap a dose of extra emphasis on the word, as in: "That's racist!" or "You're nothin' but a racist."

Thankfully, the term as a smear is growing weaker through its proliferation, and that's a beautiful thing to see.
