MOSCOW, December 7 (RIA Novosti) - There is no conflict between Russia and Georgia, but the South Caucasus country's leadership is damaging bilateral relations, President Vladimir Putin said Thursday in an interview with a Mexican media mogul.

"There is no conflict between Russia and Georgia. For reasons unclear to us, the Georgian leadership is doing everything to worsen the two countries' relations," Putin told Mario Vazquez Rana.

The Russian leader said Georgia was conducting an anti-Russian policy, and that Georgia's militarization threatens stability and security in the Caucasus.

Relations between Georgia and Russia have been strained ever since the Western-leaning government of President Mikheil Saakashvili came to power in 2003. In March of this year, Russia banned Georgian wines and mineral water, dealing a heavy blow the ex-Soviet republic's fragile economy.

The current standoff in relations between the ex-Soviet neighbors was triggered in late September by Georgia's brief detention of four Russian officers on espionage charges, and was later exacerbated by Tblisi's subsequent threat to withdraw its support for Russia's WTO bid.

Methinks that Georgia should keep Russia as most important friend, but Russia also must do something in way of closing that friendship. For example, lower prices of energents would be good step to do so.

One would think that these people would learn from the example of the many former Warsaw Pact nations (e.g. Poland), that very recently stood eagerly in line to fellate "the West", in the vain hopes of getting a few scraps thrown their way, yet received nothing more than humiliation for the disgraceful whoredowm.

Look how the Baltic states are following the same path even as they border Poland. Poland has metastasized and is now infecting all of Eastern Europe with its Anglo-Roman cancer. Lukashenko is on the frontlines, and under his leadership Belarus is strong, but I fear for their future.

Yes I don't get this either. I actually wrote an article on the whole issue, and I couldn't stress enough that the future of Georgia lies with amicable relations with Russia. The West is tossing the possibility of NATO membership to Georgia but I have no doubt in my mind this is just a political ploy so THEY can gain regional influence in spite of the Russians. If NATO gets a stronghold in Georgia, they also get greater access to the oil and gas from Baku and the Caspian Sea.

Saakashvili is borderline retarded and has to go. Russian-Georgian cooperation is essential, and Georgia has to realize that that's especially important to them.

Yes, the energy thing is a huge deal. Gazprom set prices to $230 per 1000 cubic meters of gas, while many of Georgia's neighbours get it for $65 per 1000 cubic meters.
