The Healthy Appeal Of National Socialism:
Pictures From The Day Of German Art Festival, München, July 1939

The modernist, avant-garde cultural movements sharply reject traditional aesthetic standards. Contemporary painters appear to be especially fascinated by ugliness, composers obsessed by atonal dissonance, poets and playwrights preoccupied with decadence and the madness of big city life. They seem to find beauty in the loss of equilibrium and symmetry, and in emphasising the torments of the individual soul. Moreover, their aesthetic revolt against normality and good health is linked to a general movement of social and political revolution.
Dadaism, with its doctrine of anti art -- Art Is Shit -- reflects this mad dream for chaos and provocation against healthy values. Dadaism, cubism, expressionism, futurism, surrealism and abstractism all degrade art to the level of primitive African tribes or oceanic natives, and are propagated by decadent, subversive, immoral and degenerate left wing lunatics. Indeed, the figure forms of expressionism are often quite similar to the scribblings of mentally deficient inmates of asylums.
The pictures here are from the spectacular National Socialist pageant called the Day Of German Art held in Mьnchen on the weekend of 14-16 July, 1939. The festival extolled the roots of Germanic culture down through the ages and the original German character, and reflect the power and grandeur of the Third Reich.
The Germanic tribes were brave, warlike, generous and noble minded; their pagan religion was based on the natural cycle and worship of the Sun as a symbol of ever renewed life -- the meaning of the Swastika. Their cardinal virtues included: loyalty to the family and clan, heroism in the face of death, readiness for battle, and closeness to the soil. These warrior values of the Nordic spirit find symbolic expression in the Nibelungenlied and other sagas; in the cult of Valhalla, and in the Viking ships which expressed the fearlessness, love of adventure, of booty, and the freedom residing in the ancestral spirit. These Nordic sagas are in fact the religion of the Germanic people and a reminder of its unbroken racial continuity and strength.

I recall seeing many of these images in a video once. Can you tell me their source?

NS art was similar to, and less impressive than, Soviet folk and nationalist art of the same period. The Nazis exterminated the Bauhaus; I don't care how pitiful and sad old man Breker is today, and that pigeons routinley shit on his post-'45 'artwork', fuck em.
