Some good videos. After whole bunch of players named ''next'' MJ, Kobe is THE MAN.

I think the Kobe is the only player capable of meeting all the variables of MJ. I remember back in the 90s people were saying Grant Hill was the next MJ, and GH hasn't been heard from since he was with the Pistons and has become an average player. Iverson is too short and all others fail. Kobe is insanely good, any player that can put up 81 points has to be. But I think he lacks MJ's leadership ability. Although, I will say that MJ had Scottie Pippen and Kobe has nothing approximating a dominated Small Forward to work with.

That's right, but GH#33 was the best small forward beside PIP I ever saw... But bad luck stopped him.

what is this MJ vs. Kobe, nonsense?
Kobe is half the player that MJ was. MJ was one of the best defensive players of all time.

Yes, that is true, but KB is not that far. He is worse D player, but (probably) equally good in attack. Only man who is equal with MJ in that aspect.

I used to loathe everything about the Chicago Bulls. Infact, i hated them so much I began to hate the entire sport. I was so happy that day when MJ's dad was murdered. Yeah, that's harsh, to be happy about someones dad dying, but this paints a decent understanding on how much I hated that fucking team.

I was actually waiting for someone to make the first racist comment in this thread and speculating on who it would be.
Not surprisingly it was brother Keystone.

You probably read it on The Phora or another board where racist rejects congregate.
Good thing hockey rinks have protective glass to keep the savage players from fighting with the crowd.
I wonder what the statistics for hockey fights are in comparison to basketball or even football for that matter.

Waiting for racists to make racist comments isn't too fruitful Mansa.

I don't know the source, maybe an offhand remark from a Sports Columnist "Good God, What Next???"

Don't be coy, you know those are there to keep pucks from flying into the crowd. Unlike the Palace at Auburn Hills, where large Black objects fly into the crowd :D.

Dunno a stat. I've seen plenty of hits on the football field.
I think the more physical the nature of the sport, the more allowances for fighting there should be.
Penalties for fighting should not be nearly so harsh in the NBA, I mean just look, whole benches clear regularly in MLB fights, but the NBA is Stern's precious little commodity and nothing can dare sully it's marketablility in his eyes. :)

It's just hilarious because Keystone is so inconsistent on his stance on racism.
You see on MSF he was banned for making an alleged outburst because the Admin thought he was a "pretender" as he came to the board an anti-racist with conservative views.
Since being on The Phora he has become more comfortable with his racism.
It's like a homosexual at his "coming out" party.
Don't be coy, you know those are there to keep pucks from flying into the crowd. Unlike the Palace at Auburn Hills, where large Black objects fly into the crowd :D.
But can you imagine what would happen if there was no natural barrier separating Hockey players from the crowd?
It's funny enough to see grown men on ice skates try to fight each other but to see them sliding into the crowd would be pure comedy.

Fighting to me, though it is entertaining is just bad sportmanship and I don't care how physical the contact is even if it is Boxing or Mixed Martial Arts.
They should not fight. I understand the potential to get in a fight in a physical sport but do nt approve of it.

Skillswise, MJ and Kobe might one day be considered equal. I give MJ an edge on power, fluidity of motion and DEFENSE!!!!
It really comes down to the mentality. MJ had a sharper court awareness, he could go 23 seconds on the clock with his back to the basket and still get off a good shot. He could pass like a PG. And he played the team game naturally. With Kobe it would be "I will make an effort for team play." With MJ it was natural.
Think of the teammates too. Sure, MJ had Pippen, but he only had Longley in the hole. Horace Grant was no ones defensive juggernaut.
Kobe had Shaq to throw to. He had Fisher, a much more clutch shooter than any Bull's PG was (maybe besides Kerr). They also had perennial playoff clutch player Robert Horry. But still, his "ME,ME,ME" attitude keeps him from winning more rings.
The only thing that annoyed me about MJ was as his advertising power grew, you could not sneeze within 5 feet of him without getting whistled. Leave hard defense and hand checking be, they make for a much more enjoyable game IMHO.

Jordan certainly did excel in one aspect of the game...point shaving to aid gamblers to whom he owed money.
His supposed retirement was really a sub-rosa suspension for point shaving to pay off his gambling debts. He was too important to be officially suspended.
Hypocricy is disgusting.
I was a fanatic Bulls fan in the Jordan era but I no longer watch thug-ball games. Jordan would not have appeared nearly as spectacular as he did if officials had enforced the traveling violation on him. That was the beginning of the end for civilized basketball. Ignore the rules. Jungle, thug-ball reigns.
It's just not the same since Larry Bird retired.

BINGO...
Traveling hasn't been enforced for years, and it's a primary rule in basketball for a very good reason.
Players "palm" or turn over the ball constantly while dribbling today...another disregard for a cardinal rule in basketball. Nothing called.
That was the beginning of the end for civilized basketball. Ignore the rules. Jungle, thug-ball reigns.
Exactly so. Let the monkeys get a running jump and swing from the hoop. That's entertainment.

I really wish he had stayed retired after that game so he could be remembered in his legendary form.
Those last few games against the Jazz in the '98 Finals were simply magical.
I mean to end such a great career winning a championsip on a buzzer beating shot like that is 1 in 1 million and he almost did it in Chicago in the previous game at half court.
I can still remember the commentator saying, "A hope. A prayer!", I was literally holding my breath as it sailed through the air and was so disappointed when it hit the back board. But I knew they would beat them in Utah because
Jordan is that much better when his back is against the wall.
Kobe is a great player but he will never surpass Jordan. Jordan was a far better defensive player, making him more well-rounded and his character made him unforgetable whereas Kobe's makes him a controversy.
I do give him credit for beating Jordan's career game high however.

Ending your career winning a championship game on a buzzer beating, game winning shot is probably the best way you can end a career. It's the stuff of legend.
He returned only to play for a mediocre team looking like a shell, albeit a better than most players shell, of his former self.
I respect that he did it for the love of the game I just think his 2nd retirement had more of a storybook ending.
He's still the best ever.
