“Boring damned people. All over the earth. Propagating more boring damned people. What a horror show. The earth swarmed with them.”
Charles Bukowski
“Sex is interesting, but it's not totally important. I mean it's not even as important (physically) as excretion. A man can go seventy years without a piece of ass, but he can die in a week without a bowel movement.”
Charles Bukowski
“It's possible to love a human being if you don't know them too well.”
“Genius might be the ability to say a profound thing in a simple way.”

"By all means let's be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out."
- Richard Dawkins (Science, Delusion and the Appetite for Wonder)
"Barbarism is the natural state of mankind" [...] "Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And barbarism must always ultimately triumph."
- Robert E. Howard (Beyond the Black River)
"Auferre, trucidare, rapere, falsis nominibus imperium; atque, ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant."
"They plunder, they slaughter, and they steal: this they falsely name Empire, and where they make a wasteland, they call it peace."

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.
Albert Einstein

They say that some rules are meant to be broken but this is just a figure of speech. Rules are made to be kept, rules are made to be guide us,as the modern world grows ever more complicated & appears to now be populated mostly by nutters. Rules have become increasingly important. Those who break the rules will be beaten with a rod of iron and then made to write out the rules one million times. Bending the rules is also forbidden.
Bent rules are useless.

When in a group of persons, there are influences acting both in the direction of acceptance and rejection of a belief, the result is not to make the majority adopt a low degree of conviction, but to make some hold the belief with a high degree of conviction, while others reject it also with a high degree of conviction.

“Love a man, even in his sin, for that love is a likeness of the divine love, and is the summit of love on earth''

Excellent post, Cernobog. I enjoy existential crisis. Here are two more:
"[Ivan] ended by asserting that for every individual, like ourselves, who does not believe in God or immortality, the moral law of nature must immediately be changed into the exact contrary of the former religious law, and that egoism, even to the point of crime, must become, not only permissible but even recognized as the inevitable, the most rational, all but honorable outcome of his position."
"There is no virtue if there is no immortality."

Good choice although I would not be able to excise a single line for quotation from the Wasteland as no line deserves to be amiss.

George Whitman: ''Tolstoi and Dostoevsky are more real to me than my next door neighbours.''
Henry Miller: ''It doesn't matter to me whether he's a chauvinist, a little Christer, or a near-sighted pedant. As a failure he's marvellous.''
I would also include the longest, most graphic parts of Tropic of Cancer for being so very brilliant but I refuse to type them. Nothing is that wonderful anymore.
Antonin Artaud: ''Hell is of this world and there are men who are unhappy escapees from hell, escapees destined ETERNALLY to reenact their escape.''

Probably my all time favourite:
Who am I?
Where do I come from?
I am Antonin Artaud
and I say this
as I know how to say this
immediatly
you will see my present body
burst into fragments
and remake itself
under ten thousand notorious aspects
a new body
where you will
never
forget me.

What holds the world together, as I have learned from bitter experience, is sexual intercourse. - Miller

Living, just by itself - what a dirge that is! Life is a classroom and Boredom's the usher, there all the time to spy on you; whatever happens, you've got to look as if you were awfully busy all the time doing something that's terribly exciting - or he'll come along and nibble your brain. - Celine
