SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sam, the tiny dog whose hairless body and crooked teeth earned him a reputation as the World’s Ugliest Dog, has died.

The pooch died Friday, just short of his 15th birthday, his owner said.

“I don’t think there’ll ever be another Sam,” Susie Lockheed said, adding: “Some people would think that’s a good thing.”

Sam won the ugliest dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair this summer for the third year in a row. The pedigreed Chinese crested had made appearances on TV in Japan, radio in New Zealand and in Britain’s Daily Mirror tabloid. He also had met Donald Trump on a talk show set.

Lockheed said she initially was terrified of Sam when she agreed to take him in as a rescue dog six years ago on a 48-hour trial basis. Although she fell in love with him, his appearance repulsed her then-boyfriend and prompted the man to break up with her.

Later, however, Sam became a matchmaker by bringing together Lockheed and her current beau, who saw a picture of the two on an online dating site.

Lockheed said she had Sam euthanized after she learned Sam’s heart was failing.

She said she’s felt a little lost ever since, and is sleeping with Sam’s favorite toy — a stuffed bear he picked up and carried home.

Although she fell in love with him, his appearance repulsed her then-boyfriend and prompted the man to break up with her.

Though this may say something about a strange need for her to take in stray unwanted creatures that may lead to other worse possibilities, "honey we have to end it because your dog is ugly" seems odd"

Looks like a spider and a horse breed together.

Doesn't Chris Angel have a dog just like that?

That thing reminds me of the dobermanns in the Resident Evil movies.

Btw, revolution, introduce yourself in the intro thread. It's a ritual for n00bs, as of... now. :p

Dog was obviously a fire-victim. I'm also going on the fact that it was a rescue dog.

It's actually a hairless breed, the Chinese Crested (http://www.classytouch.net/TinyTim2.jpg)

Not the prettiest of dogs, even when young and healthy

I normally love all animals but i can't see a purpose for keeping dogs like this in existance. What hideous and awful looking demonic creature.

I agree but I also think that those who skin animals or cut every hair off an animal such as the Chinese Crested (http://www.classytouch.net/TinyTim2.jpg) should be skinned alive and/or have every last hair in their body ripped off. And for those who try to breed animals to purposely look like a creature of the night should in turn be breeded themselves with, let's say, a wild boar.

You should be sent to the maxium of 15 years in prison for this vile hatred of canines.

oh i think hunters and animal abusers should be skinned alive and spooned to death. Unless it is for food/survival, it is unjustifiable. Killing humans is actually far more rationale than harming animals. Animals are inherently innocent, humans certainly aren't. An animal doesn't intentionally try to harm you, a human will. animals just try to live. But that dog just pushes the boundary of tolerable life forms.

LOL, I cant stop laughing. That is the ugliest dog I've ever seen in my life. LOL, no wonder the b/f left. I couldn't imagine being in the same room at night with that dog. LOL.

It's sad to see that poor dog though burned and abused like that. At least there are good people out there who will love something so hideous.

I probably would have taken it in if I could. I am the biggest sucker in the world when it comes to dogs and cats especially. If I had a big house and lived alone, it might just be like a wild kingdome in there. Going to the humane society and knowing some of the animals that are looking at me with big sad eyes are going to be euthanized can make me depressed for quite a while.:(

I know someone who lives like that. There's livestock inside, also. It is disgusting.

I doubt it. She chose that demon over her boyfriend and she seems happy in the pictures. Anyways, she's not too pretty herself.
