Here is a topic that intrest me much and that is animals which I love very much. I have always had animals in my life since a child and I do plan to keep it this way. We have 2 dogs Volker & Luther, black and tan German Shepards both males, about 125 pounds each and attack trained, 2 little words from me and they will attack until I tell them to stop. We also have a cat, the dogs do not much like it but since they have to live in the same house they get along Ok. We have a fish tank with many nice fish, and I have 2 leopard geckos in one tank and 2 horned chameleons in another. I take care of the lizards I clean them and feed them or I have my little sisters do it to learn responses and the cat who my mom named Zelda I do not have much to do with I really do not like cats much, it trys to come by me sometimes I thump its nose to get it away.

So to make it short that is 2 dogs, a cat, 4 lizards and some fish.
I might like a bird sometime but one which is not noisy and boring.

I have always wanted to own either a bear or a lion. Lion cubs can be had for not too much money. What good is a german shepherd, when you can have a lion instead?:viking:

I have none.

But I used to have a Canary, died a couple of years ago. I had him since I was six-seven years meaning he was over 15 years old.

I also had a small turtle and some goldfish but they all died out. And also a cat (kitten rather) but someone stole it...bastards. :p

A strange comment to make, I will not lower myself to reply by men bashing as
1, I do not look at things in general and 2, this topic is supposed to be about peoples pets.
I wish you luck on your problem though, you must have strange experience to come up with a view like that.

Yes, I think Dalmations are the special ed students of the canine world, and any kind of cross breeds could add oe subtract from the well known hyper traits of these dogs. My uncle had one it was about the worse minding dog I have ever seen, its problems ended when it jumped out of a car window going about 70, my uncle said there were spots for about 3 miles on that road after that.

Dalmations are often deaf, which explains their bizarre behavior. This is the type of genetic failure you get by having pure bred dogs. Shepherds are useless after age 7 due to hip displasure. I'll take a mutt dog anyday- hardier by far than any pure bred.

Uhh hip disorder in shepards is in general inherited and not genetiks, by researching the blood line this can pretty much be avoided - And it is no suprise to me that you pick a mud dog over pure bred.
Most working professional dogs are almost always purebred [as any cop will know] and this is for a reason, superior mental capability and more predictable temperment and of course great looks, and the ability to produce more great looking, smart predictable dogs.

Uh, what exactly is a "mud dog"? And, why would it not surprise you that I would choose one? My long experience as a dog owner has led me to preferring mixed breeds. LOL, my views on dogs are not the same as those regarding humans.

You are free to chose any dog you please as am I.
Unlike humans there are some very nice mixed breed dogs with good qualitys but people take chances with mud dogs with tempermant, simple.
Sometimes it works out fine, some times it does not.

Actually the only thing saving the German Shepard breed in the USA right now is that it is used for police and seeing eye dogs. Good god, what breeders of dog-show Shepards have done to the breed is disgusting. Their asses practically dragging on the ground, the rear leg haunches warped so they get some weird slope they think is important down their backs. And my understanding is that they've started seeing a lot of disposition issues lately, especially shyness, fearfulness and an obsessive clinginess to their owners. (Note that this only applies to the USA. For once Europeans have more sense.) If you've ever been to a dog show, the Shepards that win their breed and (maybe) class look to my eyes like they should be put down. Maybe they have beautiful looking heads, but man, the rest of them is just grotesque.

The only Shepard I'd buy at this point would be either a European one or one that had washed out of Fidelco training.

Funny thing is I agree about Dalmatians being a ruined breed. But Shepards are right on their heels, and damn close to going the same way. I'm also not wild about the average mutt anymore, because most of ones up for adoption nowadays have at least some pit bull in them, which I'd rather stay away from. I think this dog I've got is going to be my last. :(

Zrinski
01-30-2007, 08:47 PM
Dalmatians are first and foremost hunting dogs, they are hyper because it is why they exist in first place. Its definately not a dog for someone living in flat or even in a small house. You must have a lot of land where he can use up his energy.

You know whats bizarre? I had NEVER seen this before I dated a girl whose parents raised German Shepards for competition. We were in her room and one of them came in and I was a bit unsettled. I asked her, "How did your dog get hurt?" I had assumed there was some sort of car incident. She informed me that this was "how German shepards are supposed to look."

I am unlikely to change. I think if you're not exposed to animals being round the house when you're growing up you become intolerant of the negative aspects of their presence and disinterests in the positive aspects. I wanted a dog when I was a kid but my dad's allergic so it didn't happen.

Animals don't like me anyway.

I know almost everything about shepherds, they are the best military dogs and spacial forces use them around the world, they are very intelligent and they are a combination of loyalty, strength and intelligent.
still, one on one, a large male pit bull would rip it apart. just look at the difference between the pit bulls jaw and the Shepherd jaw, the pit bulls head and skull is bigger then 2 German shepherds heads when his jaw is fully open.

Yes i do think "they" would survive, obviously 2 on 1 the pit would not stand a chance. They are tough fighters and have an advantage of a low and hard to get to neck and powerful jaws but I would place my money on either of my dogs though I admit I am not so sure how good they would fight against another animal and I would not wish to see it happen, I would jump in and start kicking the pit to help my dog and if its ownder did the same against mine it would be a good fight with us all.
That said, I do not worry much about how they would do against animals, it is humans that are trained to attack, and that they do very good.

I do not wish to see aniamals in combat either, my dogs have never been in a serious fight with an animal, as for humans they are trained guard dogs so yes I do hope they will if the time comes, so far they have not have to attack anyone yet. They are social and smart, I walk them both at a time and sometimes people can pet them. They have two stages, one I tell them to "watch" and they get real tense and will not take their eyes off of the person, two I either tell them to stand down in which case they relax, or attack. So when they are on watch they are like a trigger waiting to be pulled or set back, and anyone the subject of their watch could not feel very good about it. In a emercency of course I could skip the watch and go staright into attack in seconds.
We train them with humans with those dog pads on and they attack when told and stop when told, if it was real I am sure they would attack until they were dead, and if they would stop or not, good question.

I feel like answering in depth.

My dog is a mastiff/lab mix. Grom. Croation for Thunder ;)
Amusing mix to say the least but he's mean and frightening to outsiders and my little baby. :D I owned his mother before him and at one wonderful time had seven dogs. miss that.
My cat is a russian blue, very beautiful and absolutely obsessed with herself. We get on very well. The kittencat is called Henry Miller, i met him in a park and we fell in love.
I have a selection of cute fish....... they are not as interesting.

As soon as is possible I wish to have a bull mastiff, weimeraner, irish wolfhound [my favourite] and a great dane. I dislike prissy little dogs for the most part though cocker spaniels are a firm favourite, we've always had them in the family, my dog has some of it in him too, actually.

I have two dogs and two cats. The bigger dog is a Lab-Shepard mix. She
is solid black and looks like a wolf, especially in the jaw/teeth area. The
smaller dog is a terrier of some kind, she's a little big to be a Jack Russell
but has the coloration and the disposition. My cats both live outside full-
time; the older one is a dwarf calico and represents the last survivor of
thirty generations of inbreeding. The younger cat is a six-month-old grey
striped kitten. The dogs and cats were raised together and get along fine.

My dogs are "alarm" dogs; their job is to make noise when strangers appear
on my property.

the only thing that makes a dog more like a female than a cat is because they are more social. In other ways a dog is more like a male, loud, rough, tough, and aggressive, etc. and a cat is more like a female, quiet, more fragile, and sneaky, etc.

I prefer dogs just for the simple fact that they are more affectionate. When you come home, they jump all over you and are happy to see you. Cats don't seem to care and prefer solitude a lot more.

I own a goldie who would probably carry a nigger's flashlight while he burgled my house, but she has a big bark

Maybe not. A lot of dogs seem to have a natural distaste for negroes, especially negro males. this has been talked about in a few different threads.:p. I want to see the dog.

With the sole exception of the housecat, feline creatures are individually more powerful almost everywhere in the world than their canine neighbours.
Thus, they always enjoyed my favour. Maybe because I'm an individualist myself...:)

Are you sure? ;)

With the sole exception of the housecat, feline creatures are individually more powerful almost everywhere in the world than their canine neighbours.
Thus, they always enjoyed my favour. Maybe because I'm an individualist myself...

essentially true

Pound for pound, cats are superior to dogs- even the common housecat. The cat design is one of the most successful of all mammals, dogs are relative evolutionary newcomers. Whereas dogs require a 'pack' to survive (or a human welfare agent i.e. owner :p), without which they usually wither and die, most species of cats are loners, and do quite well in this regard. They have more weapons than dogs(claws), stronger bite-force, they are able to climb trees, whereas dogs are bound to the ground. Cats have superior eyesight and hearing than dogs. Dogs have a superior sense of smell, which is because they are creatures enamored with their own bodily stench and it's role in their gang pecking-order. Cats are stealthy ambush and shadow predators, whereas dogs are like gangs of undisciplined negroes; loud, stinky, base, boisterous, running roughshod over the landscape, gluttonous, intimidating and dangerous only when with their gang, leaving behind a trail of filth.

Dogs also eat their own shit and are prone to homosexuality.

I'd bet my retirement pension on the Leopard, who would be disemboweling the Mastiff, with it's powerful rear claws, whilst sinking it's razor sharp foreclaws and fangs into the hapless mutt's upper body, who is unable to counter a feline many times more agile and stronger than itself.

One thing weird about my dogs I never figured it out until a few days ago, when you try to take a pic of them with one of those cheap box cams they go nuts and try to attack the camera, I thought well maybe they do not like things pointed at them or the flash, but then I noticed with a regular cam they are very calm and do not care so I finally figured out you know that high whine sound those cheap cams make when you push the button ? That is what was driving them nuts.

Its diet is of worms and crikcets it is a freiendly creature who likes to be handled. It is a day sleeper and likes to spend the day in a hollow log and come out at night to look for food.

Well yes those box cameras are junk, but I am pretty sure it is the high pitch of the whine it makes to set them off. I am sure if we can hear it that they hear it a lot better and louder.
