Thoughts on the N-word

There are many words in the English language which can be used to denigrate and belittle other human beings, but one word stands head and shoulders above the rest in this regard. One word alone has the power to marginalize someone in the most damaging of ways. Yes, I'm talking about the n-word.

The n-word, of course, has a very specific definition according most dictionaries, but most people who use it in a derogatory manner do so solely out of ignorance and spite and are unaware of its historical usage and meaning.

The n-word is almost always used to verbally belittle members of one specific racial group. Some are quick to point out that some members of this group occasionally use the n-word to refer to each other. Often, this is done in a sort of jocular way. Still, when people outside this racial group use the n-word, it is nearly always designed to be hurtful, belittling, and marginalizing.

The most despicable usage of the n-word comes when it is applied to members of the racial group who value their identity as part of that group and refuse to adapt to the ways of the other racial groups around them. Bigots often malign them using the n-word and make sport of the fact that these people sometimes come from oppressed regions or economically-disadvantaged communities.

Yes, it's a sad testimony to the state of our society that the n-word -- a word with such power to hurt, to degrade, and to disparage -- is thrown around so frequently. It speaks volumes about our society that people who take pride in their identity are so often slandered with the vile n-word. It shows just how malicious people can be that we so often hear the n-word used to trivialize, alienate, and disenfranchise a whole segment of society -- people who may just have something valuable to contribute if we can look past initial appearances and see through the hateful name-calling to listen to what people have to say.

I am asking you now, from the bottom of my heart, to think before throwing out the n-word. Think before you defame, degrade, and denigrate someone just because they are different from you. Think before you use the n-word, a term which can have such a marginalizing and hurtful effect.

Think before you call someone a Nazi.

LOL. And get labeled as this "n" word a few times and any kind of political or other public career is pretty much down the toilet. The PC nuts(and others, if it suits them) love to throw this word around, to shut you up, a lot more than anyone dares to use that other "n" word that everyone cries and has convulsions about. Racism(in a lot of cases, even perceived racism) is the greatest evil or sin you can commit and you are the devil.

I don't like the n-word. It has nothing to do with my objective, which is autonomy for my people living in balance with nature. I don't like the taboo on it either.

Just put both the N-words together and be nigger Nazi. I have been called a Nazi a lot and do not take offence by it. Unlike the typical sheeple who will do just about anything to "prove" there not a gasp.......Nazi or a Racist.

Since I am not of African descent, I will not pretend to know what it is like to be racially insulted like that. However, if it is about social consequences, being called a Nazi is worse. If you get called a Nazi, it is a smear that grinds the entire discussion to a halt and forces you into a position where you either accept the designation (thus losing reputation and making any sensible discussion impossible) or have to prove that you really are not a 'Nazi' ('innocent until proven guilty' doesn't really fly in this context). If you get called a nigger, however, it is an insult and you can play the victim card; the one who used the racial slur is likely to be regarded by general society as, well, a Nazi. ;) Just some thoughts from the top of my head.

I have been called a honkey and a cracker a few times, and it always sends me into a deep state of depression. I feel used, abused and discriminated against.:(

Yeah, I've been called that by ignorant nationalist blacks who think that all light skin people are "honkeys" or "crackers." I tell them I'm not white, but they persist to call me ridiculous racial names. It sends me into a violent rage that is uncontrollable. I feel your pain...

The first time I was called a "cracker" I looked around to see who had the box of saltines...

And that's true. I hardly understand the racial slurs thrown at me by people who called themselves "the n-word" all the time yet when someone of "another race" (just a different skin colour with no real connection made to evolutionary racial distinction) says it, it becomes racism and discrimination.

"The N-Word" I could care less for in this sense. As well as any other racial slur anyone could possibly throw out. If some yank called me a kraut I wouldn't run and claim racism. Not like it would really be taken seriously anyways. Although, when meant in an ignorant American-racist way it impresses no one and is therefore unnecessary.

As far as being called a Nazi. I've had it said to me many times, I could care less as well. It's not true, and in any discussion or debate if it comes up it only shows who is the immature one who wishes not to take a discussion like an adult.
