AN Irish tourist yesterday returned to face the man who deliberately infected her with the deadly HIV virus.

The woman, known as Miss A, travelled to Australia expecting him to be brought to justice finally for his evil act.

But the sentencing of Stanislas Kanengele-Yondjo was adjourned again, leaving Miss A to fly home still battling her "personal demons".

Kanengele-Yondjo faced the District Court yesterday as his victim sat with supporters in the public gallery.

The 41-year-old married father-of-five induced Miss A and a German traveller to have unprotected sex, four years after he tested positive in 1999 to the virus that causes AIDS.

A jail term was to be set after he pleaded guilty to two counts of maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm in 2003.

The sentencing, which has been adjourned on several occasions this year, was again delayed because a report by immunologist Dr Chris Boure was outstanding.

Detective Senior Constable Bernadette Ingram said Miss A felt it was "important" to be in court yesterday.

"It is very frustrating, all the delays, because she does want to have it finalised and get on with her life," she said.

At a prior hearing, Miss A gave a heart-wrenching impact statement.

"I can never forget sitting in with the doctor while he phoned the lab for my results. The voice on the other end was like a foghorn as he repeated: HIV positive. That was when my world changed forever."

She was holidaying in Australia when she met Kanengele-Yondjo, a refugee from the Republic of Congo, and began a brief affair. When she raised the dangers of unprotected sex, he told her: "I would never hurt you. I don't have anything."

Miss A was working as a nurse at Long Bay prison when she stumbled across the files of Kanengele-Yondjo, who was in custody for another matter. It was then she learned of his status.

"Mentally it has been a rollercoaster of fear, anger, anxiety and loss," Miss A said.

"No matter how much knowledge and understanding people have there is always some element of fear.

"A simple thing like that my educated sister won't put her toothbrush near mine is a constant reminder I am different.

Crown prosecutor David Frearson SC yesterday called for a heavy sentence because the crime was one of "gross heinousness" and "committed without regard for public safety".

Her ignorance and trusting in a man she met while holidaying is bad enough; then she goes and decides to have sex with him. No sympathy from me whatsoever, this is whorish behavior indeed and I can't imagine a serious court upholing her case saying that it was his fault he infected her when she was behaving in such a foolish manner.

I am not in favor of laws regulating sexual behaviors. As long as they keep it behind closed doors I do not care all that much. And with laws, alone, people are still going to do whatever it is you seek to prevent them from doing, anyway. Instead of "everything goes" "do you own thing" shit they need to be made to feel shame for engaging in certain behaviors. That would do a lot more than any laws, IMO. Promiscuous sex, like homosexuality should be shunned instead of celebrated like it is now.

Agreed 100%. As an atheist, and I've said this numerous times, I have much respect for the moral tendency of the monotheistic religions that due embrace a strict moral code. Fear in a god (regardless of what god it is) is enough to inspire decent and moral behavior, this is a given fact. That is why I've become so disgusted with the modern atheists. However, if god is to be replaced by human entities in regards to strict morality, it should ultimately fall on the state (I see no contradictions between morality and socialism). Fear of god or fear of state, doesn't matter to me as long as the end result is a culture/society based on social appreciation of moral behavior and utilitarian principles of doing what's best for the greatest amount of people. And yes, you have no idea how many times I've been ostracized from other leftist groups for having a moral code, because I reject degeneracy and the current trend of atheism as a justification for people being allowed to do whatever the hell they want.

Although I don't agree with Atheism itself, I welcome your logic of strict moral code imposed by either God or State. It's hard to find a lot of atheists with that sense of strong moral discipline. Modern atheism is reckless and ungovernable, at least from what I've seen.

Many points in this thread I must agree with. This sort of degenerate behaviour is something I give niether the Irish women nor the German women sympathy for. Hopefully they both have enough sense to isolate themselves and not pass on the disease in their home countries.

I don't agree entirely that there should be strict laws on behaviour mainly because if you place a law people will break it. I think, however, that moreso the first step would be to "battle" this media-inducing indulgence in bad moral code and (distgusting) sexual behaviour. You must first put it in the minds of the people otherwise than that of today's "aspire to be a whore."
Although I would not know how exactly to go about this in the most effective way, if you had a majority of people who had the options to be sexually degenerate yet made the decision to not be due to the instillation of high morals then, and only then, would placing a law work and thus strike fear in to the rest and/or trash those who would otherwise not listen to a moral code.

Or maybe I am giving the masses too much credit.

Either way, the smallest step is to teach your children other than what the media will tell them before they grow up to be controlled by the media. That way the child has the option of being degenerate, but because of the fundemental nurture of the parent in passing more codes, will not. Thus starting a chain.
