I'm very interested in WWII,I recently bought a few books on amazon(didn't get them yet)they show every little detail about German/American military uniforms, insignia, badges and equipment, does anyone know these books?

I'm especially interested in the German uniforms, so I bought two books about that.

If you're especially intrested in the Axis side, you might want to take a look around here, on the Axis History Forum (http://forum.axishistory.com/). Note the links on the top of the site.
I'm sure you'll find the information you need. And besides, use the search function on YouTube and VideoGoogle. I'm always amazed what I can find on these sites, time to time.

Are you looking for documentaries or feature films? There are tons of WWII docos on GoogleVideo:

http://video.google.com.au/videosearch?q=ww2+documentary

I bought a good BBC documentary about Stormtroopers at a discount video store a while back called "Stormtroopers - Hitler's Infamous Shock Troops of World War II". There's a whole series of them sold under the label "The War File". They have heaps of documentaries about the Pacific theatre as well. I also scored a copy of Triumph of the Will. It's actually kind of boring.

I saw "Triumph of the Will" a few weeks ago, I had an assignment about Nazi Germany, and I had to explain the propaganda and the media during the third Reich. I didn't watch it all, but you can get an impression about it even you watch some parts of it,and you don't need to speak German to understand it.
by the way I watched the complete version, its on youtube.

Boring? Actually, one of my friends became a National Socialist after seeing it. Frau Riefenstahl was a true mastermind in the movies' art.

I was wondering if people can recommend movies made about WWII..
a few days ago I watched a very good movie, "the great escape"1963. impressive movie, my father said he watched it when there was only one movie cinema in Israel back in the early 60's:rofl:

RE movies:

Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line, while technically gorgeous, are dramatically intolerable.

I would recommend:

To Hell and Back

A Bridge Too Far

The Big Red One

Cross of Iron (I couldn't stand the hippie-influenced "arty scenes") but the (few) battle scenes are superb.

A made for TV (HBO) gem called "When Trumpets Fade". Really enjoyed how it stressed the futility of it all.

Also, I've heard good things about the series "Band of Brothers", but I haven't watched it myself.

Midway

Great one, but WWI.

Legends of the Fall has about 5 - 10 minutes of decent WWI footage in it.

I'm trying to think of another jingoistic gem from the Pacific Theater with a young Robert Mitchum in it. Was it Gung Ho?

"All quiet on the Western Front" with the Germans speaking english, yes sure. Almost as bad as pedophile Steven Spielberg's garbage sadistic porn.

Watch Kelly's Heroes. There at least the Germans speak German.

I recommend 'The Eagle Has Landed'. It is a lot more realistic film than the typical post-war propaganda movies, not only the Germans are the "good guys", but the film also contains a lot more emotion than the similar ones. There are no mindless zombies on either side.

IIRC Kelly's Heroes is the one with Eastwood, no?
Just because the Nazis speak German, the rest is in English.

In such films, it doesn't matter what language "those evil Nazis" speak, because they're always just helpless sheeps with "Shoot me!" labels on their heads.
They don't have real roles.

Try giving a look to

COMMAND DECISION '49
THEY WERE EXPENDABLE '45
HELL IS FOR HEROES '61
IN WHICH WE SERVE '42
A MIDNIGHT CLEAR '89?
BATTLEGROUND '49
FIVE FINGERS '52
THE CRUEL SEA '53
BEACH RED '67
RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP '58
STALAG 17 '52
SWING KIDS '95? (not a war film - a movie about the German homefront, but done very well)

and some guilty pleasures: WAKE ISLAND ('42), TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH ('49; excellent movie but Gregory Peck is always too Gregory Peckish - the same way Chuck Heston is always too Heston-like to take seriously), BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI ('57; outrageous rewriting of history, but a good film) and DESPERATE JOURNEY ('42; Errol Flynn, Ronnie Reagan, and Alan Hale Sr mop up the Nazis in 95 minutes; the last line of this hopefully-intentional comedy is Flynn's breezy "Now for Australia - and a crack at those Japs!")

THE LONGEST DAY '62 has its fans - all the Germans talk German, for one thing - but it's an "all-star-cast" job, which is a different kind of unintentional comedy. My favorite laugh-out-loud moments are Roddy McDowall camping it up as a homesick Southern GI, and Richard Burton acting through his nostrils as usual playing an RAF pilot - just the Shakespearean-overdramatic way he says "ack ack" always leaves me in stitches.

Don't forget Korean War movies - there aren't a lot of them, but some [THE STEEL HELMET, FIXED BAYONETS and PORK CHOP HILL] are damn good (warning - Peck's in PORK CHOP HILL). The interesting aspect of Korean War films is they almost never have any politics or ideology or speechifying in them: they're all squarely centered on grunts in combat trying to kill dinks and survive.

I can recommend you some good WWII movies, but personally there are so many WWII movies out there that they get old. I like WWI movies or medieval stuff better.

Either way, check out Downfall. It's a pretty decent film. There was this other one that came out about US marines in Japan, but I forgot the name. I'll see if I can find it.

So weit die Fe tragen looks incredible!! I cannot find an article on it in English, but basically it's about a German POW who escapes from a Soviet gulag in Siberia. I'm still trying to find the DVD for region code 1. All I could find: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/So_weit_die_F%C3%BC%C3%9Fe_tragen

CROSS OF IRON was made independently, via financing through Wes German producer Wolf Hartwig, who completely ran out of money before shooting had completed. That's the reason the ending is so bizarre, it had to be improvised from scratch on a shoestring.

I couldn't get into Cross of Iron for the very reason mentioned, e.g. Coburn as a German NCO. Well, that, and when the German trenches were bombed by a flight of U.S. Navy F4U Corsairs, I had to give it up as a bad job.

I caught a few minutes of the 1966 flick Battle of the Bulge the other day, the one with Robert Shaw as Joachim Peiper. Shaw played the role straight, I'll give him that, pushing the contrast between the wooden and fanatic Peiper and the down-to-earth Henry Fonda character to the hilt. Now I remember why I hadn't seen it in years, as it's probably one of the worst (big-budget) WWII flicks out there with the possible exception of Midway, which also starred Fonda, though Heston had to steal the bad acting accolades in that one just by being Heston.
