An HIV-positive woman will serve a one-year conditional sentence after she pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault for having unprotected sex with a soldier at CFB Borden.
Jennifer Murphy, 32, was sentenced in a Barrie courtroom on Friday, but she will not serve her time in jail.
Instead, Murphy will serve the time at home, provided she keeps conditions that include:
Staying away from CFB Borden.
Staying away from the man with whom she had sex.
Receiving psychiatric help.
Providing a DNA sample to the federal databank within 15 days.
In March investigators at the military base looked into allegations Murphy had a sexual relationship with a young soldier. A memo went out from the military that any soldier who had sex with her should come forward for testing.
Murphy entered a guilty plea on Nov. 25.
She is scheduled to leave Ontario Saturday. Murphy will serve the sentence in her home province of Newfoundland.
HIV tests of the victim have so far come back negative.
