NEW YORK - Morgan Freeman says the concept of a month dedicated to black history is "ridiculous."

"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" the 68-year-old actor says in an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" to air Sunday (7 p.m. EST). "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history."

Black History Month has roots in historian Carter G. Woodson's Negro History Week, which he designated in 1926 as the second week in February to mark the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

Woodson said he hoped the week could one day be eliminated — when black history would become fundamental to American history.

Freeman notes there is no "white history month," and says the only way to get rid of racism is to "stop talking about it."(this guy really needs to stop living in a hollywood movie)

The actor says he believes the labels "black" and "white" are an obstacle to beating racism.(a label. LOL. I guess it is racist to even notice that somebody is black, white, asian, etc. Don't talk about race or racism and these things will disappear:D. Is he going to perform a magic trick? His IQ must be off the charts. )

"I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man," Freeman says.(sounds fair enough, nigger)

Freeman received Oscar nominations for his roles in 1987's "Street Smart," 1989's "Driving Miss Daisy" and 1994's "The Shawshank Redemption." He finally won earlier this year for "Million Dollar Baby."

Black history is of course more than just a month. What exactly is white history?

What he's saying seems pretty sensible.

EDIT: I mean, what he's saying:

1. Black history month is silly, it should be integrated into American history as a whole.
2. Racism isn't helped by groups that constantly scream about racism.

Now, both of these sentiments would probably play well on the Phora if it was a white guy saying them. What's so bad about them being said by Morgan Freeman?

I liked what he was saying until:

1989's "driving miss daisy"
he might be a muded albino most of those black looking movie stars are albinos.

he might be a white guy. a muded albino=white. i need to look closer at his picture. even if he is black he seems like one of those blacks that were raised by white farmers called uncle toms.
freeman notes there is no "white history month," and says the only way to get rid of racism is to "stop talking about it."
i know he thinks just like an albino. i was thinking that same thing many years ago
i am tired of black history month too.
yeah he looks like a muded albino. he has lost a little pigmentation. not much meaning he probally stayed out of the sun. the sun evaporates pigmentations.
i think he has some silver in his hair because he might be half jew.

I have to agree with The Retard (man your username certainly makes for awkward sentances :p)

Black history month is actually kind of annoying to me. I remember schools always going out of their way in bs attempts to "celebrate" this month. Since when has anyone ever done this for an entire month based on someone else's "race" (I hate the American views of race, it is not as simple as skin colour). It should be taught as American history, and thats the end of it. And definitely shouldn't just teach it during the "black history" month, it should be a normal addition to a ciriculum.

Although I've never been interested in American history. "White," "black," or whatever colour of the rainbow yanks have placed for what they call the other races.

The only reason he is bitching is because it creates further division among the races, when we all should be coming together and repeating like a broken record that "we are all the same" It a white guy would have said this and used the exact reasons for why "black history month is ridiculous" I would not be praising him. It sounds like something a white conservative might say. Especially the idea that there should not be any distinctions between black history, white history, etc. that it should just be lumped together as american history. "We are all americans and that is all that matters."

Who needs black history month when a bottle of aspirin/advil/tylenol tells you everything you need to know about black history in a quick and effective summation. Blacks picked cotton before they dealt drugs.

Actually the white man was the world's first drug dealers, just ask those Chinese that were kept high off opium by the white man so he could easily conquer China during the Boxer Rebellion.:D

since i was young i heard the cubans were the first u.s. drug dealers. then i found out holland was a big drug capital disguised behind those wooden clog shoes and windmills.
i never heard about that chinese thing. i am not much into history since it is missing the white albino race. charles_rigaud i will take your word for it that the white man invented drugs.
the poor blacks were good at inventing low-cost homemade drug paraphernalias.
