Why are they volunteering? How good does a promise of a career in the military sound to young men? Maybe to pay for college? Or even worse because they have bought all the lies. In which case, It may sound strange, but I don't see a whole lot of difference between that and them being drafted at gunpoint. Yeah, it could be said ignorance is no excuse, but it doesn't seem to be a good enough reason to cheer their deaths either. And it seems you hear stories about quite a few of those young men coming back with very different opinions then when they went in.

With so many jobs being outsourced, both blue and white collar, the military seems like a pretty stable career path to keep food on the table for a lot of young men.

As bad as things like this might be, being in a scenerio where it is kill or be killed, day after day, is going to bring out the worst(psychopatic) traits in some people(whether these kind of people were already predisposed to this type of behavior, more so than others, or not I do not know) and lead them into doing things they never might have done in a different and peaceful situation.
