I am a disgusting nerd. I am considering this as a setting for an RPG.

Basically, the idea is that after WWI things went waaaaay worse (Depending on your definition of "worse") than they did in our timeline. Yeah, alternate history. Love it. Love it.

-The Russian revolution never really set in. Russia is still a battleground in places. Most of Russia is ruled by local powers though.
-Germany collapsed at some point in the late 20s or early 30s. Various right- and left-wing extremist groups still skirmish. In terms of power, a lot of groups have popped up claiming to represent historical territorial areas that were folded into Germany in the 19th century. I love saying "Prussia".
-France collapsed amidst a bunch of political scandals. OK, I don't know as much about French history in the 20s. I do know that the gov't was a bit shaky.
-Italy did not do especially well either. Again, gotta find a reason. Let's just assume it's screwed up, and not in a unified Fascist way.
-The United States came apart in the 30s. The coup plotters among business who aimed to take down Roosevelt worked, although they didn't get General Butler to do it*. Butler himself ended up leading the "Loyalist" forces. The United States is now broken up between the Loyalists, the businessmen's forces, and various local powers. Canada has also broken apart.
-Britain is not in great shape. With so much chaos all over the place, colonial rebellions are everywhere. Increasingly isolationist, the Isles are being basically locked up, and scapegoats are being sought.
-Civil wars are everywhere. Spain is screwed up. Latin America is falling apart. Belgium may or may not be suffering strife between the different cultural groups there, ditto Switzerland. China may well be engulfed in civil war.
-Oddly enough, some of the smaller nations are those that are in the best shape now. Holland is actually a power player in Europe, and the Scandinavian countries are not doing so bad. Australia and New Zealand are probably in the best shape out of the English-speaking nations. Japan is doing pretty well, but without oil and such, it can't even really fuel its war engine enough to get more oil.

So, is this plausible? In any way? Because I think it's pretty damn cool.

*General Smedley Darlington Butler, USMC, was awesome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smedley_Butler

I'd use an existing system to play it. Pen and paper, of course. I'm thinking the BRP system, as used in Call of Cthulu. Of course, with my house rules.

The glory of a setting like this is that the lack of formality means that the players could be, say, soldiers, without having a great deal of following orders. Because if they're all little militia bands, they're relatively independent. Or they could even be bandits or whatever.

1930s
Irish Free State - Civil War Round II breaks out
Occupied 6 counties - Loyalists Vs Nationalists (nationalists divided among Civil War lines)
