Sundown Towns: a Hidden Dimension of Racism in Americaby James Loewen

From Maine to California, thousands of communities kept out African Americans (or sometimes Chinese Americans, Jewish Americans, etc.) by force, law, or custom. These communities are sometimes called "sundown towns" because some of them posted signs at their city limits reading, typically, "Nigger, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On You In ___." Some towns are still all white on purpose. Their chilling stories have been joined more recently by the many elite (and some not so elite) suburbs like Grosse Pointe, MI, or Edina, MN, that have excluded nonwhites by "kinder gentler means." When I began this research, I expected to find about 10 sundown towns in Illinois (my home state) and perhaps 50 across the country. Instead, I have found more than 440 in Illinois and thousands across the United States. This is their story; it is the first book ever written on the topic.

sundown towns yes i have lived in a few of them. the first one the chief of police told me when it comes to black on black murders he holds negroes for a few months on murder then he drops it down to manslaughter and lets them go so negroes can go out and kill some more negroes.
the second one the chief of police told me he don't like blacks and they don't stand a chance against him because he is part indian which means to him that his ancestors owned america before anyone.

This is pretty ridiculous, there are not thousands of towns in the US in 2005 which have signs posted saying "blacks stay out after sundown" or whatever. What he probably means is that there are thousands of all-white towns, which is true. He is cleverly trying to equate all-white towns with racism and hatred, as if the very existence of an all-white town is racist and something which needs to be changed

there are not thousands of towns in the US in 2005 which have signs posted saying "blacks stay out after sundown" or whatever true there are not thousands of signs i have only seen a few signs. one i remember says "the last negroe that was here was hung here". the sign was on a road in between grundy west virginia, virginia, and tennesse. i think oprah winfrey went there to ask them to remove the sign. i don't know if they removed it or not.

and these all white towns have no idea what they are missing. You have to be filled with hate not to understand the many different ways in which high crime rates and section 8 housing, for example, can enrich your life.

Flood these towns with all kinds of lovely minorities and many of the people in these towns will become 10 times more racist than they are now. Of course they want us to believe that only people who have little contact with minorities are the racist ones, because they are clinging to untrue stereotypes and if they just had a little more diversity in their life they will see how incorrect these stereotypes are and will come to appreciate all the positive things that diversity has to offer. Which, of course, is a fantasy, for all the mentally challenged multi culti fools, and shows how blind they truly are.

I can only imagine the sob, cryfest of a show she put on when talking about this topic. Complete with pictures of lynchings and Martin Luther King,etc,etc. And her audience and viewers cried right along with her and ate it all up.

the sign was on a road in between grundy west virginia, virginia, and tennesse. i think oprah winfrey went there to ask them to remove the sign. i don't know if they removed it or not.One of the few Oprah shows I've ever watched featured Oprah going to an all-white town in north Georgia and hectoring them about not having any blacks living in the town. The whole show was sensationalized of course, and presented as: "Racist all-white town in Georgia hates blacks and refuses to let any blacks live there". But when the townspeople were actually allowed to speak (Oprah interviewed them), it was clear that they werent a bunch of black-hating racists, they simply said things like "well there's never been any blacks here is all", the only even remotely "racist" thing I remember hearing was some guy saying "I dont want our town to turn into another Atlanta, I've been to Atlanta several times and it is a mess".

If the existence of an all-white town is ipso facto racist, then the very existence of white people is racist

that is so true i worked around atlanta for a while it is a mess. they kept trying to spend counterfeit money with me. they broke into everything and pulled a gun on me trying to rob me. i had to hit one of them in the head with a hammer to make him drop the gun. then i grabbed the gun and ran with it.
i know God helped me then cause how else could i have ever out ran blacks. i have dodged bullets plenty yet that is the first and only time i ever out ran blacks. when i was driving away in my car they shot at my head and the bullet went right past my nose and shattered my passenger window in my car.
they got some crazy blacks in atlanta. they like to wear long trench coats to hide their guns.
