So I go to Wallgreens to purchase a few things, and get waited on by what I am assuming was a Somali. Of course his English was less than sufficient to be working with the public. I used a gift card that was about half the price of my bill and instead of taking the amount off of the bill he adds it to the bill.:rolleyes: Thus a bill that should have come to 30.00 comes to 90.00. When the manager comes over she gets an attitude with me and says that I should have made it clear that I was using a gift card instead of purchasing one.:rolleyes: WTF? So my response was simply maybe you shouldn't be hiring people that have trouble reading and speaking English, for which she(a white woman) told me to leave the store.:mad:

Doing it with a plastic smile and faux-happy vocal modulation typically gets their faces, especially the foreigners, all contorted. It's good fun for the entire family.

I do have a similar experience only from the side of being a dumb immigrant :p

During my first year I had people hanging up on me only because they were hearing an accent, some pretending they didn't understand what I was saying, even though I am absolutely sure I was making myself clear. It didn't usually happen when I was talking face to face with someone, the reaction was usually a positive one, I guess because I was being perceived as white and European with a lot of people even smiling and wishing me good luck.

Now that I almost got rid of the accent I do not have this problem anymore, but it must be really tough for those guys from Somali. Not that I try to defend them, in fact I think that they should learn the language and if they can't than they should get the hell out of the country. I also think that Americans have every right to deport any and every foreigner regardless where the person is from. The same goes for any other country.

This isn't an immigrant experience, but it might as well be so I will post it anyway. I went through the drive thru at McDonald's the other night to get a large coke (which I was going to mix with some Bacardi rum). It took about three or four minutes for the black cashier to realize I was there and take my order. And even when she did, I could barely make out what she was saying in her unintelligible gibberish. I used the incident to illustrate racial differences in reaction time to my fiancée.

I certainly wasn't thinking that way at the time. There was a white guy who was working there and though he stayed out of it, I could just tell by the way he was looking at me that he probably agreed with me.

I usually try to avoid even dealing with people like this because I know it is going to be nothing but a hassle that is going to leave me annoyed. It is getting more difficult to avoid them, though, since they are fucking everywhere. And especially in the case of dirty, stinky somalis, I don't even lilke them touching shit that I am going to buy and bring into my house.

There was one I had some trouble with at the Speedway near my job, thick accent, but she was hot, so I was patient with her.

Where I work, there's a 57 year old Chinese woman who moved here with her husband 8 years ago. She has a horrible accent, but she makes every effort to learn English, which is more difficult, given her age. She wants to learn ALL the English language, and for that she comes to me. The pharmacists fuck with her because they know she's going to do that, so they make sure she comes to me with the bad stuff. She'll come up to me while I'm working with a piece of paper that she's written new phrases on, that she heard in jokes told by the pharmacists that they refuse to explain to her.

Examples:
butt slamming rump rangers
back door sex
farting (they don't teach that word in English classes)
all the four letter words
all the odd words to describe sex acts i.e. cunnilingus


Just the concept of anal sex freaked her out, but she is very insistant about learning every single English word that exists. She carries a miniature laptop around that is a Chinese to English dictionary. She writes down everything I say, then enters it into the laptop, Chinese words appear on the screen, then she has one of these two reactions :rofl: :eek:

Well the ones i'm talking about are from Eastern European countries or something... There are a lot of eastern european immigrants where i am, it's quite wierd how it worked out.

Well not that they're immigrants but...

My wife and I live right next to a rotten shanty owned by a landlord who seems to go out of his way to pick the loudest, rudest, drunkest negroes he can find to rent to. The family living there now consists of an a man in his thirties, a few rotund teenage girls, a baby, a retarded guy in his late twenties, and some old guy.

Loud arguments and obscenities can be heard at all hours of the day, hell they shout even when they aren't having a disagreement. God-awful rap blares from two or three different stereos in the house at the same time. That poor baby is usually shrieking it's head off. Their pot smoke sometimes wafts over to our yard and into our daughter's bedroom window. The old man sits outside in a lawnchair, drinks all day then spends the late afternoon retching loudly into a bucket. Sometimes we even hear someone being slapped around over there. None of them have jobs. Every morning we have to pick up empty liquor bottles in our front yard and sidewalk. At least once a week us or one of our neighbors gets fed up and calls the police because of the noise. I could go on and on.

They are ignorant, hateful, inconsiderate, lazy noise-addicts. I've lived in the city my whole life and have seen my fair share of lowlifes, but I've never before seen humanity sink to such a low level as this. They seem to be utterly clueless as to the annoyance they cause.

There was an article in the newspaper about the debate over the crime issue in my part of the city. Both whites and blacks agree that they want something done about the crime. But the negroes, goaded on by their mentally-ill preachers and reverends, refuse to support a police presence in the neighborhood. Thus no progress is being made.

This one is probably the most unusual, since I am a foreigner myself in Japan.

In Tokyo I frequently have trouble getting fresh-off-the-boat Chinese staff to understand my order in shops or restaurants. Naturally my Japanese is non-native but I swear I never have this problem with Japanese staff.

The number of Chinese in service-industry jobs here is increasing. I wonder why people who can barely speak the language are hired for jobs where they the public but the answer is clear, it is the same reason they get hired in the States.

At least I have the advantage of being able to deal with them patiently. I see Japanese patrons getting more flustered because they are still relatively unaccustomed to encountering language barriers in their own country.

I complain to my wife about it sometimes, and she tells me not to be prejudiced against foreigners. :rofl:
