View Full Version : Pat Robertson's sanity

It is pretty much official, he is insane.

US evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for "dividing God's land" of Israel, igniting his latest trademark controversy.

As the Israeli prime minister battled for life, Robertson seemed to suggest to viewers on his "700 Club" television show that Sharon was being punished for his policies in Gaza and the West Bank.

"The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, 'divide my land.' God considers this land to be his.

"You read the Bible, he says, 'This is my land.' And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he's going carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No. This is mine.(says god's spokesmen, Pat Robertson):222:

Robertson, who frequently provokes outrage with his remarks, said he was "sad" to see Sharon fall sick, and that he was a "very likeable person."

"I prayed with him personally. But here he is at the point of death. He was dividing God's land, and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or the United States of America."

God said, 'This land belongs to me, you better leave it alone.'" (a direct statement from God?)

Robertson also appeared to suggest former Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, murdered in 1995, had also paid the ultimate price for talking peace.

"He was tragically assassinated, and it was terrible thing that happened, but nevertheless, he was dead."

Robertson's latest blast drew immediate condemnation from Israel's ambassador to the United States.

"Such things are very outrageous. I would expect this only from people like (President Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad in Iran ... I wouldn't expect it from any of our friends," ambassador Danny Ayalon told CNN.

The US Anti-Defamation League also piled on Robertson's "outrageous and shocking" comments.

"His remarks are un-Christian and a perversion of religion. We would hope that good Christian leaders would distance themselves from Pat Robertson's remarks," the ADL said in a statement.

"It is pure arrogance for Robertson to suggest that he has divine knowledge of God's intent and purpose based on his interpretation of scripture."

Robertson, who ran for president as a conservative in 1988, and often urges supporters on his show to support President George W. Bush, frequently unleashes rhetorical hand grenades.

In October, he said a recent spate of natural disasters pointed to the end of the world and the imminent second coming of Jesus Christ.

In August, Robertson said the United States should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, but later apologized for the remark.

He also suggested voters in a Pennsylvania town should not expect God's help should they face a natural disaster after they ousted a school board which had mandated the teaching of creationism.

Last year, he suggested that the threat to the United States from liberal "activist judges" was "probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings," a reference to the September 11 attacks.

He has also lambasted Disneyland and the United Nations.

He is spineless for always apologizing for his remarks. He should stick to them. "who made him god's spokeperson?" He was citing bible passages. He was merely pointing out what the Bible says. And as far as i know the Bible is the "spokesperson" for God.

those were actual quotes from the bible? They sounded like something made up by Robertson. It doesn't really matter, I guess. He is still using them in a way to suit his crazy agenda. Which still implies he believes he is speaking for "god"

Lmfao, see how fast they turn on him. I agree with maz, he's a big pussy for apologizing for his remarks. I can respect most people who stick to their guns, but not spineless idiots who crawl back.

Hey guys, Pat Robertson is a son of a U.S. senator, and he owns diamond mines in Africa.

I believe he is a cunning, cynical huckster who has more "worldly wisdom" than you guys combined.

I hope that Crazp Pat stays alive and kicking for years to come.

He is the perfect albatross to hang around the necks of the judeo-christians.

I hope next time he talks about The Rapture.

It means that he comes from a thoroughly corrupted family. :p

Seriously, it means that he is intimate with hard-core politics and not likely to act out of idealistic whims.

(I would make the same comments about, say, a scion of member of British House of the Lords)

I do know some stories circulated about how he supposedly bragged to people about how his family connections kept him out of combat during Korea.

Plus he went to Yale Law School (of all places)...alma mater also to Bill & Hillary, if you're looking for deep dark conspiracy theory links.

"Christian" Zionut Pat Roberston knows for sure God is more angry about Sharon's retreat from Gaza 2 months ago than Sharon's massacre of thousands of innocent Palestinians at Sabra and Shatilla in 1982??
How does Pat Robertson know God's heart so well? Does he have the same connection that George Bush has to God, who told George to smite Saddam? Why can't I receive direct messages from God?? Don't I have enough money?

Bumpus, although I think of his hucksterism as relatively benign( ie talking about killing Chavez got him to send us discounted oil within a week).

When he gets away from anything having to do with religion he sounds quite cogent.

The real questions is though: How do you know that he isn't telling the truth? I'm not sticking up for the guy but it makes me wonder.... is this what the Old Testament prophets went through also?

Perhaps he is waiting for you to respond to what he has already given you first.

I came to the conclusion that Pat Robertson is nuts, because God told me so.

God told me to check out this thread. Then God told me to post without saying anything relevant.

My devine work is done.

Pat Robertson is perfectly sane. He's a shrewd businessman. He knows that every time he says something outrageous, he gets free advertisment on all the 24 hour news stations. All his fans defend whatever goofball statements he makes, so it just serves as free publicity for him.

I thought his comments were pretty funny. Considering that I could just as easily say, "look how fat and old this guy is. It's a MIRACLE he's still alive. God must really like this guy to exstend his life so long."

Pat Robertson takes an elderly morbidly obese guy and blames his health woes on "God's Wrath." I laughed my ass off.

That is like me telling you, "hey dude, don't piss off God, 40 years from now when your old and fat he'll give you debilitating health problems."

It is pretty much official, he is insane.
