Almost a million € is being spent trying to get possible immigrants to stay at home
The Spanish Government has taken out a hard-hitting television advertising campaign in Senegal, designed to stop immigrants trying to reach Spain illegally.
The spot says making the trip is useless as people will simply be repatriated and also warns of the dangers of making the crossing. It leads with the slogan ‘Don’t risk your life for nothing, You are part of the future of Africa’.
The spot also shows statements from families and friends who have lost loved ones. It also features the singer Youssou Ndor, speaking in Wolof, the most spoken language in the area, warning of the consequences of making the trip.
It was presented to the press in Madrid yesterday by the Secretary of State for Immigration, Consuelo Rumí, and will be broadcast in Senegal from today. The campaign has a budget of nearly a million €.
