This name came up in connection with Denazification programmes in post-war Germany over on the Anti-Germanism thread (http://www.thephora.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29602).

There does not appear to be an online copy of the Weltfish pamphlet 'The Races of Mankind' which was used in the programme in Germany. If anyone has it perhaps they could scan it and put it up somewhere. Gene Weltfish, in common with just about all the intellectuals involved in the US Denazification programme was a Jewish communist. She was also a protege of Franz Boas, the anthroplogist who played a very significant role in promoting the idea that racial differences are essentially non-existent and that all human beings are basically equal in the biological sense. Readers of Kevin McDonald will be very familiar with him. While I tend not to place any store on biological racism myself (I'd need a bit of convincing), I am however sensitive to the theme of Judeo-communist subversion.

So who was Gene Weltfish?

Here's a student essay which might be a good starting point.

Also, I found this very interesting paper presented at the 33rd Annual Meeting of CHEIRON, The International Society for the History of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, June 21-24, 2001, which tends to support McDonald's findings and substantiates Rockwell's campaign to denounce the Boasian's as subversive communists ". . . the views held by Rockwell and other neo-Nazi leaders had important sources within academia, and were not the products of diseased minds but of a group effort."

Good man Errigal, thanks!

No problem. The funny name "Weltfish" ("world-fish" !?) reminded me of this instructional film made in 1946 called "The Brotherhood of Man".

The Brotherhood of Man (1946)

An animated film, in humorous style, which makes the point that dissimilarities between people are not basic but result from superficial environmental influences. Based on the pamphlet 'RACES OF MANKIND' by Ruth Benedict and Gene Weltfish.
