Court told son raped mom
South Africa, Port Elizabeth - A frail man heard his 70-year-old sister's cries for help while her son allegedly raped her all night, unable to go to her aid, a court heard here on Tuesday.
The daughter found her mother the next morning, naked in a blood-stained bedroom in her house in KwaZakhele.
The old woman's arm was broken and her face badly bruised, the daughter said in Port Elizabeth magistrate's court.
Standing trial for the rape and assault of his mother is a 30-year-old man.
He admitted guilt to the assault charge, but denies he raped his mother.
While people in the court were in tears during some of the evidence, the accused just stared calmly in front of him.
The old woman's brother, who uses a walking-stick to get around, testified that he had feared for his life that night.
He said the accused and a friend had arrived at their house earlier to spend the night.
'His friend pulled a knife on me'
"I woke up and heard my sister pleading for her life and screaming that her son was raping her.
"I got out of my bed to go and help her, but the accused's friend pulled out a knife and ordered me to remain in my room," said the old man.
The court heard that the son allegedly had attacked his mother with a pick-handle while his friend stood guard at the door of his room.
The daughter testified that her mother's face had been "hit black and blue and the walls of the room were covered in blood and faeces".
"My mother was severely shocked, but told me what had happened."
It was revealed in evidence that the old woman had been treated for three weeks in Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth and her arm was in plaster.
The daughter told prosecutor Lyle Page that she had never confronted her brother about the attack, because he had previously threatened the family with a knife.
In his plea explanation of plea, the son said he had assaulted his mother after she refused to tell him who his father was.
