My sister living in Europe on OE has had a few minor negative experiences with them, until they learned to be wary of them like the locals are. For example, gypsy girls will apparently approach tourists and offer to show them how to buy bus tickets and stuff, then pick money out of their hand using some sleight of hand trick. One time a gypsy tried to mug her on a train too, but she managed to get away to an occupied carriage. Just minor stuff like that. They've been responsible for numerous rapes and murders, and countless robberies, in Italy since Romania joined the EU. They might not be a massive problem to the security of Europe, but they're a blight on any community unfortunate enough to include them.
There are a number of gypsy families in my home village, and growing up they were probably responsible for almost all of the crime in this otherwise crime-free zone.

Never seen them do that and I live in Dublin city center, but I can envisage it all the same. We have tonnes of gypsies in Ireland now. That may have been true for the pre-WWII era, but the case is entirely different now. You see, as entire Europe was forced to embrace this anti-racist "culture", they got bolder and bolder like American Blacks. Their levels of insolence are amazing now, in many places throughout Eastern Europe (especially in the country), their "organized" gangs threaten the safety of indigenious citizens as they steal, intimidate and now even rape, or murder more and more. Needingless to say, they are the very factor that causes "racism" with their behaviour, they feel like kings protected by state laws. Even in my country, people who don't dislike, or oppose Gypsies one way or another, are a minority.

There suddenly where a band of gypsies and one of them had a baby, without diapers, who where defecating all over the store. I don't think it's a case of people not being allowed to object or state that there are severe problems that need to be addressed in these communities. This is the way they live and not much can be done about it. It's the same situation with many (non-gypsy) homeless people.

These people have little to no political influence, apart from the usual suspects (human rights groups, etc). That's one of the reasons why they remain on the bottom rungs of society.

One of my friends in NZ used to work as a tradesman servicing state housing in the Hutt valley (just north of Wellington) where a lot of "fresh-off-the-boat" Samoans live.
