PASADENA, Calif.—At a press conference today in California, Project Prevention announced that it will raise the cash incentive paid to drug addicted and/or alcoholic women who choose long term or permanent birth control to $300. Previously, the incentive was $200. In addition, the first 100 women in 2006 to take advantage of the program will be paid $500. The increased cash incentives are part of an aggressive national grassroots campaign to raise the total number of clients served by the organization to 2,006 by the end of 2006. Project Prevention’s mission is to reduce the number of substance-exposed births to zero.
“Nothing positive comes from an addict giving birth numerous times only to have her children taken away—it only sends the addict deeper into her addiction because of the guilt felt in losing yet another child,” said Barbara Harris, founder of Project Prevention. “I know this first hand, after adopting 4 of 8 children born to a Los Angeles drug addict, and decided to start Project Prevention after a failed attempt at legislation that would have made using birth control mandatory for drug addicts and alcoholics in California.”
Founded in 1998, Project Prevention has paid 1,684 drug or alcohol addicted clients in 39 states and the District of Columbia to obtain long term birth control. With 42 local and state chapters nationwide, Project Prevention intends to meet its goal to increase the number of clients served by raising the dollar value of its cash incentive to $300, providing a higher cash incentive of $500 to the first 100 women who take advantage of the program in 2006, and expanding its grassroots network of local and state outreach chapters.

I have heard about this organization many times. I didn't know that it still existed. I don't know how successful I can see something like this being since welfare mothers and other assorted scum are not likely to part with all of the "assistance" they will recieve from continuing to pop em out. On the other hand, drug addicts will do just about anything for a buck to feed their addiction. Hopefully since this was started, in spic heaven, California, quite a few of them will be taking advantage of this. But then again they like to have about 500 kids, so who knows.

wow, that's definitly something I've never heard of before.
That's odd how it's only the women that are being paid to be sterilized. I imagine it might be that the men won't have the chance to have sex with any woman of a higher economic class

A good project, it should be expanded to the men too though.

Many women as it is, drug addicted or not should consider sterilization seriously. How many abortions are there every year? If women don't want to have babies they might as well tie the tubes and forget about it.

This is not a decision that should be taken lightly, though. Many women may decide for quite a few different reasons that they do not want to have kids, maybe even because they are currently with a guy who does not want any, etc. Given time and life changes, these "decisions" can change, drastically.

The only way to help Minuteman or Amren is by financially supporting them. I contributed $150 to Minuteman, i think you all need to do the same.

If they're weak enough to undergo such a definitive treatment as this because of the whims of the guy they're with, they serve society quite well by removing themselves from the genepool.

Well, many women are that weak and that is exactly how some men want and expect them to be. After all, the man is supposed to "wear the pants" But I used that as just one example. There are plenty of other reasons a woman may decide at some point in her life that she does not want kids and then later she may change her mind.
My cousin is one of these. After she found out she was pregnant she had an abortion and decided that she didn't want to have to deal with this "worry and hassle" since she, said at the time, that she definately did not want any kids. After carefully thinking about it, she and her boyfriend decided this might not be the best thing to do. They now have two kids and she talks all the time about how much she loves her kids and is glad that she had them.
I say this as someone who does not have any kids and all my life I have thought that it is possible that kids are never going to be something I want. It is not coming out of some feminist anti-family type of mindset, just a belief that I might not be the kind of person who has the patience and strong "motherly instinct" required to make a good mother. But I still would never make such a drastic decision, and now as I am getting older I am not quite so sure that I want to remain childless.

Of course its not a decision to take lightly. Obviously people change their minds but I'm of course talking about the type of women who are dead-set in not wanting kids, wanting to party all their life, wanting to sleep around with a bunch of different guys, etc. These women should consider tying the tubes voluntarily rather than resort to abortions. I'm not sure what percent it is but the number of childless women are on the rise and more and more women are saying they don't want kids. I can't count how many girls my age have admitted to not wanting to have children. This is quite funny because before I used to hear things like it would usually be women who would talk to their boyfriends casually about children and that it would be the boyfriend's who would be freaking out. :D
Btw Starr, my sister is now in her thirty-somethings, pretty well off financially, has a great career but the trade-off is that she is still single. However even then she still has faith that she will be married and be a mother one day. She tells me however that it is quite difficult to find a man at her age. I have a hunch that perhaps my sister is being too picky because there are plenty of guys who have fancied her but she either didn't give them a chance or dumped them. lol. Obviously though she has to pick someone that would make her happy first and foremost. It's not worth lowering your standards if you can't stand the person and can't love them.

Raise the price to a few thousand dollars and in a few generations we could have those whose greatest interest in life is money (read: dysgenics) out of the gene pool for good. I wonder how many people would sterlize themselves for $5000. How about $10 000? $20 000?

These are the exact type of people who have shown by their irresponsible acts, that they would be the least likely to make what would be a responsible decision.

Men and women today are very immature and always looking for that next cheap thrill rather than letting themselves get weighed down by any responsibilities. At 21, 22, or 23 years old, the thought of having a crying baby who is basically going to kill if not put a big dent in your partying lifestyle doesn't sound like to much fun.

It is funny sometimes that some of the ones who have all of the options(and are quite aware of this) are going to also be the ones that don't have a man. I guess because they know they have so many options they feel they can be picky and actually look for perfection, which besides all of the usual things, good looking, well off, etc. also means someone who is exactly like how you want them to be(this last one I admit to probably being my downfall) Which of course does not exist.
