Following is what I wrote on another forum.

"I haven't seen evidence of any culture being able to eradicate basic human foibles such as greed, envy, jealousy, anger, lust."

Things which Socialists do not seek to abolish. And whilst it is true that people do need an incentive and a standard of achievement to work, which you probably equate with 'greed,' it does not follow that a Private Owner, a Capitalist, is the only being capable of providing that stimulus. One could argue that the community, or the municipality, or the State, can act as the better provider. Does not the postal service, the armed forces, and public education confirm this?

"It's human nature."

Only finincial monopolies have the energy and the resources to devote themselves to constant gain and accumulation, buying and selling, and so on. The vast majority of humans find this immeasurably tiresome and anxiety-ridden; it is against their 'nature'. Most people who are able to devote themselves to this game either inherited wealth or are the tireless rat-like type, so blind to the finer things in life, so opposed to the spirit of knowledge and service, that they can concentrate all their energies on grabbing and getting and accumulation. For the vast majority of people that game is synonymous with anxiety and precariousness, for artists and intellectuals it is even more disagreeable. For the vast majority of people on this earth the profiteering system is against human nature.
