There are more important things in life than children to most adults in the liberal West: making money, spending it on frivilous goods, choice, making more money and spending it, pursuing careers, choice, etc.

COUPLES without children will likely outnumber those couples with children in the next five years, according to a snapshot report of the nation.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006 Year Book released yesterday shows childlessness is rising.

The ABS yesterday released a snapshot of Australia in 2006, a report card on the nation's family life, population, industry and labour, education, income, crime, agriculture and transport.

Couples without children are projected to outnumber couple families with children in the next five years, due to the baby boomers becoming empty-nesters, people choosing not to have children, and choosing to have children later. . . .

Kids are a lot more costly economically then they used to be relative to the income of their parents Fade( in fact back when the country was predominantly rural they tended to produce income rather then cost money for their parents).

Welfare people and most poor immigrants( working or not) get this all subsidized...

Apparently, I cost over half a million dollars to raise (rifle club membership from 13-18, karate from 7-16, alcohol from 16-?, books from 14-?, school fees, school books, food, etc.).

Precisely why I'm thinking of moving up into the country ('country' = 'the bush') when I'm 27, after I'm done with university and I've got some money under my belt. That, and because social engineering is totally ineffectual up where I want to go (I went on a holiday with a few friends, I saw only one nonwhite, a chink, in eight days - I saw only AS/AC Aussies) I don't have to see hordes of immigrants. Life is cheaper there. And I could shoot beer cans off the back fence with a shotgun, and not get harassed by cops for it...
