Coretta Scott King, 78, Dies
By Associated Press

ATLANTA - Coretta Scott King, who turned a life shattered by her husband's assassination into one devoted to enshrining his legacy of human rights and equality, has died, former mayor Andrew Young told NBC Tuesday morning. She was 78.

Young, who was a former civil rights activist and was close to the King family, broke the news during a phone call he made to the "Today" show.

Asked how he found out about her death, Young said: "I understand she was asleep last night and her daughter tried to wake her up."

I predict Bush will lay flowers on her grave and give a mushy speech about how much 'progress' has been made in America and the role she played in it.

I find I'm happier when I don't. I know the general state of the world; the details are usually unimportant. It's like a newspaper headline reading "WORLD SUCKS": yeah, and?

Great. Now we will get to hear day after day about the wonderful achievements of the civil rights movement and worship of god like figures such as the late, great, MLK will be kicked up a notch. And the most important lesson: diversity is our strength"

I am surprised that Bush didn't stop in the middle of his speech tonight with some words of healing or at least a moment of silence or something.:nono:

Or did he?:p

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Mr. Speaker, Vice President Cheney, members of Congress, members of the Supreme Court and diplomatic corps, distinguished guests, and fellow citizens: Today our nation lost a beloved, graceful, courageous woman who called America to its founding ideals and carried on a noble dream. Tonight we are comforted by the hope of a glad reunion with the husband who was taken so long ago, and we are grateful for the good life of Coretta Scott King. (Applause.)

I wonder if White Nationalists could do some subtle counter-propaganda to the glorification of Martin Luther King by commemorating the birthday and memorialising the assassination of Malcolm X? Doing so would pretty much be immune to charges of "racism" (because, he's Black, right?) but would promote nationalism and separatism over integration.

I just saw snippets of the funeral. It looks like it was mostly black leaders talking about social and economic justice and crap like that. Even had Malcom X's daughter, that Shabazz (does lightening turn her into a super hero when she says that?) speaking, which is pretty funny in itself considering the supposed differences King and X had.
