Please notice that St. Petersburg is widely considered to be the most "enlightened" and cosmopolitan city of the Russian Federation... :p

Twenty Percent of St. Petersburg Residents Want Jewish Organizations Banned
(February 15, 2006)
The Agency for Social Information-an organization of sociologists who regularly collect massive amounts of data on a variety of issues facing Russia-held a roundtable in St. Petersburg earlier this month to reveal the results of its study on the levels of antisemitism and racism amongst the city's population, according to a February 7, 2006 article in the local supplement to the national daily Kommersant. The study found that 20% of respondents supported an infamous January 2005 letter to the Prosecutor's Office calling for a ban on Jewish organizations and referring to Judaism as a “Satanic” religion (the letter was signed by 19 members of the State Duma and hundreds of private citizens).
A similar number stated that they would not want their children to be friends with migrants and 23% stated that they wouldn't want to see non-white soccer players on the local team Zenit. The pollsters attributed rising racism to the rising number of migrants to the city, as well as the fact that unlike in past years, these migrants were more likely to be from the Caucasus rather than predominantly Slavic countries like Ukraine and Belarus. They warned that continued racist violence from the majority population could lead to extremist groups rising amongst migrants.
