Also... well, it seems to me that computer-based-communication blurs the line between symbol and reality, since when discussing God or computers, symbols = reality.

This happened a while ago but I just joined the Phora and saw this thread. Whoever it was who hacked the forum no doubt had some childish dispute with Geist or someone, to be honest I never went on the forum much myself so I wouldn't know and I couldn't really care less, but what they probably didn't take into account was that Geist didn't host the forum. I was temporarily letting the forum use some of the hosting space I used for my business which was completely ruined by whoever hacked it. What was some stupid spat between people who didn't know each other outside of a few lines of text on an internet forum caused me some very real financial loss. It's a pity that the people who do this sort of thing (in this case I would guess they're no older than 14) never get the baseball bat over the head they deserve, but such is life on the internet.

Hey man, long time no hear. I'm Geist. One of the things that really grated me is that after the hack I had no way of contacting you about it all as we never talked outside of PMs over there. I'm still not sure what it was all about. The guy did however force me to change my MSN, and hacked into my e-mail account too which caused major problems for me IRL too. :mad:

Hi, yeah I tried to contact you through another couple of forums but I couldn't find one where you were registered. My e-mail account was hacked into too (which was almost as annoying as the hosting itself) and a short period afterwards someone seems to have acquired details for the credit card that paid for the hosting and spent a ludicrous sum of money online. There wasn't any obvious way they could have got those details even if they did hack into the site (as it was paid for through a completely different process from that which accessed the hosting) but it seemed like a bit of a coincidence. Thankfully I got it all sorted out and didn't have to pay anything, but there was a period of a couple of months where I would have gladly placed my liberal sensibilities to one side and slit whoever was responsible's throat.

Anyway that's all in the past, I just saw this thread and wondered if anyone found out what the situation was. Did you ever revive the forum? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't after the way it ended up...

That's not surprising as I only really post here, and another one or two sites. It's pretty fucked up about the credit card stuff, and that's on an enturely bigger level. That's fraud basically. :mad:

I decided against reviving the forum, and even stopped using the internet for a while to let the whole thing boil over. I had to change all my details, and internet tracks basically. The idea of putting that much work into another forum just irked me so I left it as it was. The worst part for me was that my e-mail was my college e-mail, and I had to sort a lot of shit out with the college regarding it all. Luckily people are quite understanding about these kinds of things.
