Beginning a series of Phora galleries on great but overlooked 19th century European art, and some of the post WW1 American commercial artists who carried on the traditions. Art Renewal has online an entire monograph devoted to Godward [1861-1922] for those interested in exploring his work further.

Godward's technical mastery, coupled with his playfulness, helped him create and populate a one-man genre: classical cheesecake. His ability to evoke - summon forth - antiquity is amazing.

Can somebody please explain to me how EVERY image was visible when I'd finished posting them, but as soon as I return to the page, none are? Whadd'I do wrong here? Can ANYONE see these images?

No, but I'd like to.

Are they hotlinked from a host who won't allow it?

Where are you hosting the image files?

I'm linking from two different Godward-page locations. I'm going to go back and try this again.

Waitaminnit, now they're all visible again!

DL them to your HD and host them with, say, tinypic.com.

There are photobucket and other ones, too. Nice services, though it is tedious to upload a lot of images, it is more reliable than hotlinking from hosts that won't allow it. And art sites are often exactly those types of places, as they are wary of their images being linked by many people. It is also nice to have a ready supply of images if you post them at different boards.

I might create a few threads of 19th and 20th century art, Hudson River School, Ash Can School, and maybe other art, school or not.

A lot of my favorites are not to be found online, or sometimes, present but poor image quality, or a large work, but from a distance without a detail, among other problems.
