Doh! Have The Simpsons put their foot in it by poking fun at our enthusiasm for parades?

In a controversial episode already aired in the US, Mayor Quimby declares in the hit cartoon show that St Patrick’s Day will be “booze free”, prompting Bart to quip: “Where are the IRA when you need them?”

As soon as the St Patrick’s Day parade starts, Lisa remarks: “Oh no, the Northern Irish are also having a parade,” as a group of orange-coloured men walk down the street holding ‘Pride of Ulster’ placards.

A shocked Bart replies: “There are two kinds of Irish people? What are they fighting over — who gets to sleep in the bathtub?”

Moe then butts in with: “Actually those Prods and Cathys have hated each other for centuries,” as a brawl breaks out between the Northern and Southern characters.

I have my money on the potato eaters. The Orangemen don't have the English to back them up like they usually do.

Funnily enough the orangemen seem to hate the British State as much as Republicans these days  That being said it must have been helpful to go into battle with information supplied courtesy of Constable M15/6/7 Whatever in your back pocket.

That's been true for a long time. The guns of the old UVF were brought in to block a sellout by Westminster.

Indeed. I partake in KFC and watermelons too, tbh.

Irish cocktail drink: a pint of Guiness and a potato with a cocktail umbrella sticking out of it.

"Potato eaters" has to be one of the strangest ethnic food-related insults. It's like if Japanese were to slag off the Chinese for being rice-eaters.

The Simpsons is an awful show now. They need to pull the plug on it.

Last week I was in Hakluyt-land (Ottawa) and was out driving with my wife in my dad's car. Going north along Bank Street before Heron Road there is a KFC on the right side, and passing by it I saw three black youths walking in. They literally looked like they'd have names like DeShawn and Bulaboo. (Most blacks in Ottawa are Somali Muslims, but these guys had a real American television black look).

All this Phorastuff flooded into my mind and I chuckled. My wife asked what was funny and I said "nothing, nothing...". Because of hanging out here so much I have this strange secret inner life I can't share with anyone. I can't imagine how people around me would react if they knew how funny I find so much racist shit. I'm every bit in the closet with this stuff as any racist here. I've never had to bear so much secrecy in my life before. Not liking it.

The same could be said of the South-Vs-North conflict.

In its heyday, the Simpsons was probably the best show ever on TV.

And the troubles were probably the best excuse to brawl in London Irish pubs in it heyday.

You Gawd damn Kiwi eater!

Groening made it clear he will let the show go on until the ratings drop. Personally I think he should have wrapped it up around 2001. The best seasons were two to four. The best season of them all was the third when Conan O'Brian was the head writer.

My thoughts too. O'Brien's humour was light and quirky. The Simpsons is clumsy and misanthropic and Jewey now.
