Serbia confirms bird flu, tests in Albania negative
(Belgrade/Tirana, DTT-NET.COM)-Serbia’s authorities have confirmed the presence of bird flu H5N1 at dead swans found last week in north-west areas of the republic, but still waiting for final results from EU reference laboratory.
Authorities are to apply precautionary measures in Velicki Backi canal near Sombor and Bajina Basta municipalities were the swans are found on 2 March and 4 March respectively.
Serbia is the third country of the Western Balkans region to report the bird flu, as earlier wild birds found dead in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina tested positive.
Albania last week reported two cases of dead wild birds, but tests from Weybridge laboratory said that the birds are not dead from H5 virus, Albanian agriculture authorities said on Tuesday.
