Well-known Czech film director and Oscar winner Jiri Menzel will make two documentaries about Croatia. Filming will take place in the cities of Makarska and Dubrovnik and in other cities often visited by Czechs tourists.
Menzel met last Friday in Zagreb with Croatian Minister of Tourism Damir Bajs to talk about his project.
Menzel wants the films to tell a story about Czech tourists’ arrival on Croatia’s Adriatic coast in a charming and funny way. He will try to explain why Czechs love Croatia so much.
Menzel’s films should be finished by the end of the year. Their names will be "Our Sea, Your Sea" and "My Croatia."
Bajs said he hoped the two films would promote Croatian tourism. Last year alone, 650,000 Czech tourists visited Croatia.
Menzel said he did not believe the films would have much impact on relations between Croats and Czechs because they were already excellent.
Asked whether Croatian men would be presented as seducers of women, Menzel answered with a smile that Croatian men needed to fear for their reputations.
He added everyone knew Croats had improved Czechs’ genetic make-up through many mixed marriages.
