It's struck me as odd for a while now that those rightists who seemingly think this is 1939 and not 2009 usually admire Pinochet given his cozy relationship with Jews and the fact that we now know that the man he overthrew, the leftist icon Salvador Allende, was a racist, eugencist, and anti-Semite that gave asylum to a Nazi 'war criminal'. This is probably due to their usual ignorance, but the following should give myopic anti-Semites a new idol:

Im a pure reactionary who just hates commies and thinks Eichmann had it coming, so I like Pinochet with good grounds.

You and I have real disagreements but you're easily one of the most rational posters here. I agree that you have real standing to like Pinochet. But for those who define the meaning of life as hating Jews to the exclusion of all else (and we know who they are), liking him is suspect.

I imagine reading the link I posted will turn them into Allende lovers.

Pinochet was a repressive rightist dictator, who employed death squads against anyone even remotely left-wing. Allende seemed like a national bolshevik. I'll have to read more about him, and his views. You want to know what's really funny though? The John Birch Society condemns both Hitler, and Mussolini, as being "state syndicalist", but admires Pinochet, as well as Francisco Franco. Of course, then again, Franco was a Marrano, who was neutral during World War II.

You radically overplay Pinochet's repressive tendencies. He had maybe 3000 dead and disappeared which doesn't even qualify him for entry level status in the hall of dictators. Some of those are likely attributable to terrorists who weren't easily identifiable.

The JBS makes a distinction between Mussolini-Hitler and Franco-Pinochet for one reason. The former were fundamentally totalitarian whereas the latter were dictators in the Roman sense. These were men that made provision for the peaceful transfer back to civilian and democratic rule.

I've always liked Pinochet, pretty much for the same reasosn weikel mentions. Together with Franco he may have been one of the greatest political figures of the 20th century.

The dictatorship here in Argentina was horrible, antinational and murderous. Though I don't know about Pinochet, I studied about him but I never heard a Chilean commenting on him.
