On June 13, 2009, Misawa suffered a heart attack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myocardial_infarction) after receiving a belly to back suplex (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suplex) from Akitoshi Saito (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akitoshi_Saito). The two were opponents in a tag team match with Misawa teaming with Go Shiozaki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_Shiozaki) against Saito and Bison Smith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bison_Smith) at Hiroshima Green Arena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshima_Green_Arena). Misawa lost consciousness and was taken to a hospital. He was pronounced dead in the hospital at 10:10 p.m. JST (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Standard_Time) (9:10 a.m. EDT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Time_Zone), 1:10 p.m. UTC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time)).

Though I rate Chris Benoit higher than him in the 90s, he is often regarded as even better than him. Misawa is one of the greatest of all time.

He apparently died from a spinal injury, not a heart attack:

Although Pro Wrestling NOAH and the family of Mitsuharu Misawa attempted to keep the cause of death quiet, it has been reported in Japan from police reports from talking with hospital workers that the death was caused by a spinal cord injury from the back suplex and not heart problems.

Ted Tanabe, one of the best known referees in Japan, passed away on Monday in Japan from a heart attack.

Tanabe suffered a heart attack while officiating in a match on a Sunday show for Osaka Pro Wrestling. He was rushed to the hospital and passed away the next morning. He was 46.

Tanabe worked for several independent promotions. He probably gained his most fame during the heyday of Michinoku Pro Wrestling, where he did part of the comedy Lucha routines. He also did a heel ref gimmick during his career.
