Here's videotaped testimony of Normal Mineta (Transport Secretary) in front of the 9/11 Commission. This testimony was allegedly omitted from the report (I can't be bothered looking it up to see if that's true).

The reference to a plane being "50 miles out" to me indicates an awareness of what the target was likely to be, which means that a warning could have been issued to the Pentagon and deaths could have been avoided via evacuation.
