That's the view from the teashop at Portsalon isn't it? That place got quite a renovation recently and most of those white noddy houses on the hillside behind it are new. The long beach to the right had an RAF bomber crash-land about one third of the way along from the old hotel.
From a slide photo taken around 1968-'70:

The very place Errigal - it is a fine place to stop and have a bite to eat , and take a drink.
The Liberator came from Ballykelly , another crashed on high ground between the Foyle and Lough Swilly.
Thanks for posting the photos of the wreckage it is mostly buried in the moving sands.

My grand father a highland Scot used to come here for weekends from Derry - he listened to and picked up the native tongue of the Irish speaking locals and found that with little effort he could join in conversations .

The castle looking hotel was bought by "Niggers" (my grandmother's description of Iranians) and ended up being burnt down in the 80s - likely for the insurance.

Derry was a lot closer before the 70s. For me though Derry was always a place we bypassed rather than went to unfortunately. That's changed over the last few years obviously.

Once upon a time Belfast was a place to shop - now for me its either buy it on line or go to Derry - a city which has cleaned up , grown up and which can now be enjoyed as it should be.
Below a few more views from Donegal.

Let's just say Ace that she is a very nice lady. :)
This is from St John's Point a young Canadian officer cast ashore here , his ship sunk by Erich Topp in what was referred to as "the Happy Time" for the U-Boats.
