Well, it's that time of year for playoff hockey.

Anyone's local team playing for any glory at this point?

My local Las Vegas Wranglers, the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, went 53-13-6 in the regular season and managed to still finish in second place with that ridiculous record. Tonight is our game one of the first round. We play the Dallas Stars' affiliate, Idaho Steelheads. Our head coach won Coach of the Year.

Ottawa (my city) looked to be a sure thing until recently. They still probably have the edge over Carolina if Hasek makes a full recovery, but their confidence as a team has decreased as of late. They're 50-20-8 right now, and they've just recently lost 3 in a row for the first time this season.

No. The Chicago Blackhawks suck this year.

On an unrelated note: My friend gave me a "yellow" Blackhawk jersey because he thought it made him look too Mexican.

Two and a half hours until faceoff here. Butterflies in my stomach. Feel like I have to puke. :(

I haven't been to an ECHL game in awhile. I'm not even sure Peoria is in that league now.

Ha....the Peoria Rivermen actually BOUGHT an AHL team then proceeded to put that team out of business, then "moved" to the AHL themselves.

Is the entire playoffs going to be broadcasted on OLN?

They were actually pretty good when I last seen them, but that was a long, long time ago.

I also remember when they played the San Francisco Spiders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Spiders) back when they played in the IHL. I never seen so many fights in one game before, it was an excellent contest.

Ah, yes, the old IHL. That was an excellent league, I was sad to see it fold. Pretty long history, too, I believe that league started in the 1940s.

Unfortunately, my Las Vegas Wranglers lost tonight and are down 3-1 in a best-of-seven series with the Idaho Steelheads (I believe the odd nickname is a fish reference....Idaho is apparently a great place to do stream fishing).

Great photo from the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary for Game One, Calgary Flames vs. Anaheim Mighty Ducks:

No glory here. Our team's probably moving after next year. The Kansas City Pelicans sounds about right.

Vegas has a good chance to get the Pens, as well.

PS-----Impressive pics from Calgary...:beerchug:

BASTARD DUCKS TYING IT UP. Ah well, 30 minutes to go. At least crappy Detroit learned its lesson that no matter how many cossacks and Czechs it imports, Americans can't play hockey. :p Yay Oilers, let's have a battle of Alberta!!

The Edmonton Oilers beat the San Jose Sharks to win their division.

People are going crazy here - two blocks from my apartment the streets are jammed and the cops are out in full force.

Ottawa was also a huge disappointment for me, Hakluyt. I was hoping that they'd get much further in the playoffs in case a western team didn't.

Truthfully, they've had the skill to win the Cup the last few years, but not the heart. Some people blame Hasek for this.

Update:

The Oilers just won their third straight against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

They are now just one game away from the finals - the first time they've been anywhere near the cup since 1991 or thereabouts.

If they keep this up, I'll be sure to post some more hockey riot photos when the fans spill over just two blocks from my home.

I slipped away from a wedding reception to watch the last period - that was some good hockey played tonight.

It's midnight and the celebrating (I live two blocks from the epicentre of where people go to celebrate hockey victories) has not gone down in volume even in the slightest. It's crazy.

Can you hear much where you're living, Potty?

Oh yeah, the car horns especially but even the screaming. You forget that they crowd 109th, too. :D More than that, they shoot fireworks off of highlevel and from the train tracks. See you on the pavement after we take no. 7; I expect plenty of boobies.

You're on - I've promised to take photos if the Oilers win.

You wanna take bets on the number of arrests tonight? I'm going to go with 120 - it was something like 70 when they lost.

At least I haven't heard that damn police helicopter that flies incessantly over my building after every game.
