Oprah Winfrey is a rich woman – and she's got no problem with that.

Speaking in Baltimore on Monday at a fundraiser for Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School, Winfrey told the audience, "I have lots of things, like all these Manolo Blahniks. I have all that and I think it's great. I'm not one of those people like, 'Well, we must renounce ourselves.' No, I have a closet full of shoes and it's a good thing."

Winfrey, 52, who is reportedly worth more than $1 billion, said she doesn't feel guilty about her wealth. "I was coming back from Africa on one of my trips," she said. "I had taken one of my wealthy friends with me. She said, 'Don't you just feel guilty? Don't you just feel terrible?' I said, 'No, I don't. I do not know how me being destitute is going to help them.' Then I said when we got home, 'I'm going home to sleep on my Pratesi sheets right now and I'll feel good about it.' "

The talk-show host also discussed an academy for girls that she's building in South Africa. "I want to offer opportunities to girls who have nothing but the will to learn," she said. "I'm going to be opening my school on January 2, and it will be one of the great days of my life to see 450 girls, most of them orphans who would not have had the opportunity for education in their lives, come to school."

Winfrey was the featured speaker at the event, which helped raise more than $1.4 million for scholarships to Baltimore's largest Jewish school.

The article pretty much speaks for itself...no commentary would be able to elucidate the absurdity (and exploitability!) of her statements.

I'll say.

What a bitch! LOL!

I have to hand it to you, your post made me laugh out loud (and that's not easy, because I've become immune to internet BS over time). Since when should people be ashamed of the money they earn?:rofl:This is really sad; it seems so desperate.
Interestingly enough, I just learned that she entered Forbes top 50 generous philanthropists in 2004...and continues to give millions a year.

Hey, more than I would do!

What garbage. She has no shame, nor for the fact that she really didn't DO anything to get that money--people in entertainment are only slightly better (value judgment here) than those worms who inheret their fortunes. I don't doubt she doesn't feel bad being rich, let's hope she doesn't feel bad being strung up by the laces of her shoes when she's executed as a class enemy.

There are some people in it who truely deserve to make money, they wrote something brilliant themselves or they are truely uniquely talented actors...

Then there are people like Oprah... and she is less then someone who inherited her money as daytime talk show hosts are socially destructive.

And I'm definitely no communist...

the issue I have with this is that someone like Oprah goes out of her way to make others(usually stupid white women) feel guilty and give what money they have(a LOT less than hers) to her favorite charities while she brags about everything she has and how she has no guilt.

The only reason she donates any of her millions is so people will think she is just so great and generous and her "fanclub" will grow and more and more people will tune in to her stupid show, and buy her shitty magazine, etc.

Did you see southpark last night? If anything, Oprah should invest some money in finding a man-friend to satisfy her vaginal needs.

Actors (celebrities) are far too wealthy, even if they are extremely talented in what they do. It is preposterous that someone should be paid even near a million pebbles for being in a frickin' movie.

Any white who allows themselves to be guilt ridden by the fat, affrimitive blackion, shegress Offalprah deserves what they get. Her "fanclub" is made up of sub-humans.

Dope-rah is supremely annoying, and hypermaterialism is a disease.

Nothing wrong with having some fine things, but- a roomful of shoes? C'mon! The widest array of fine Italian shoes couldn't even begin to make Dope-rah seem appealing.

To that, I'll add that upper-middle class white suburbia is probably the emptiest place on earth despite all the material wealth, bought with plastic by plastic people.

Oprah also worships herself. Watching her give interviews is hilarious: she barely lets the person speak and interrupts them constantly to give slices of wisdom which her audience clap for and OOoo and AHHH at. She's like a woman Thulsa Doom when it comes to the hold she has on these cretins, only far less appealing.

Unfortunately probably true although the bling bling ghetto gives it a run for its money.

Half the women on the planet compulsively buy fucking shoes...

We feel a need to impress our female friends and most importantly make them jealous. I do have somewhat of the typical obsession with clothes, but I have never been into shoes. As long as I have a few general pair that will look appropriate with most of my outfits, I am fine.

These things become sort of like an addiction.

Out of curiosity Starr: if you disregard the weather and the season, how many pairs of shoes do you own that you could choose from to wear?

Nothing is more annoying than a woman who owns tons of fake, cheap jewelry. They don't seem to get how tacky and trashy they look.

Thats why they shouldn't teach women to read :D. Otherwise we wouldn't need to pay into the jewelry scam...

Ever see "The Lords of Flatbush" when Sylvester Stallone threatens to kill the jewelry shop guy if he ever shows ANY expensive jewelry again... that was awesome.

Even if they can't read, they could bring it to a jeweler or a pawn shop and find out if it is real.:D Unless of course, you could get them to lie for you.:nono:

I could wear a piece of fake jewelry and like it if I really cared about the person who gave it to me. I realize how retarded this sounds.

How gay. I've got a pair of dress shoes i wear everywhere (all nice and shined), a pair of buckled jackboot looking boots. and then workboots which smell rancid. I won't need a new pair for the next two years.

I have a pair of Doc. Martens boots, had them for two(2) years and still holding up great. I also do a lot of walking in them.

Shoes. Pfft.

PS: I like Mazdaque's Thulsa Doom/Dope-rah analogy.

Re: tha ghetto: yes, this is indeed the emptiest place on earth, bar none- even worse than UMC sub-urbia(you do actually run into some decent folks in UMCS, and and least the place is more aesthetically appealing than tha ghetto.)
