There is a supposed difference between rednecks and white trash. Rednecks can be smart. Knowledgeable. Whereas white trash are basically degenerate specimens pretty much sustained by the welfare state. The Whigs had some similarities to the Republicans (other than with respect to the central issue of the GOP in Lincoln's era ie., slavery, and its expansion into the Western territories, etc.), but it would not be accurate to say that the Whig Party, least of all its Southern statewide affiliates, were the antecedent of the Republican Party (which was a semi-formalized coalition made up of Northern Whigs, the Free Soil Party, the American Party, and the Liberty Party). The Whigs were primarily competitive in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, Tennessee, and (to a lesser extent) Louisiana and Missouri, while the Deep South states remained overwhelmingly Democratic (which is not to say the Whigs dominated the other states previously referenced, but rather that they were electoral battle grounds constantly being contested by the two principal parties).

Not really, although some people say so. Jefferson founded a party (which was called different things, and is most often referred to as either the "Democratic-Republicans," amusingly, or simply "the Jeffersonians"). Never-the-less, this party shared a lot of ideological tendencies with the Democratic Party that won its first Presidential election with Andrew Jackson in 1828. One key distinction is that the Democratic Party had a signature issue which was too radical for the Jeffersonians ie., universal White male suffrage (which last came to Rhode Island in about 1850, or a few years later - Rhode Island actually fought what was basically a civil war over the issue, which the Feds stayed out of, and which the White male suffragists eventually won).

Cracker would be sort of the middle class in the slave owning days, between the rich and the slaves, the guys who managed the whole thing for the rich and cracked the whip on the slaves for the rich, but they felt powerful even though they had less, because at least they were better than the niggers, even though they didn't have much more, they did have a little power over someone/something which made them justify the whole system as being beneficial for themselves not just the slave owners.

Last week one of our many drunk cops left his toddler in his car while he went to a bar and was confronted by a citizen in the parking lot. Ordinarily, this doesn't concern me but hyper-priveleged bastard cussed the woman out and called her a redneck and told her to go back to her trailer. He was so aggresive that others came to the do-gooder's defense and police were called. He's on paid vacation now while his department pretends to investigate.

It pisses me off that a stinking pig would think he was better than anyone much less a concerned citizen.
