'UK and Northern Ireland' doesn't really make sense; Northern Ireland is part of the UK. You might as well call it 'UK and England' or 'UK and Wales'.

Is this a simple mistake or is there something more sinister going on, perhaps involving a republican admin?

I think we should be told.

:thanks:

I believe the correct form is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".

Perhaps that's what they meant, and they just muffed it up.

Probably.

I'm hoping that Lenny will come online soon and liven up this thread.

I'll look into this, but due to my lazyness I won't be able to do so right now.

I always felt that the name of the section was a snub against Irish Republicans:bbbat: :p .
As if the person who named it wanted to emphasise the fact that Northern Ireland was part of the UK.

P.S. Not that many of our resident Irish Republicans are offended by it much.

P.P.S. Ahknaton has it right by the way.

P.P.P.S. If we get really technical, would we have to call the Ireland section "The Phora - Poblacht na hEireann", or the French section "The Phora Republique Francaise", which are the official names?

I've always been offended by it, actually.

I think it should be changed. now.

There are multiple threads in the 'Republic of Ireland' section relating to Northern Ireland.

I'd say rename both.

It'd be worth it just to watch Lenny explode.

just call it England, there arent any Welsh or Scots here and NI can be discussed in the Ireland forum where it should be anyway.

this reminds me of the situation in the real world, Scotland & Wales are moving forward BUT ENGLAND GETS LEFT BEHIND AND IS TOTALLY IGNORED !.

a forum for those foreign loyalists and ex colonials who still want to romanticise about Britain can be set up.

the Union is dead...

We had a similar situation on the old Speakeasy, where there was a Western European forum that specifically excluded the UK.

These things are not accidental, it's usually a form of political statement on the part of the proprietors who tend to left-footers with Fenian sympathies.

I have no problem with Irish Republican Catholics. It's all the other Catholics that worry me.

My grandfather served in the RN in both wars, his comment on Malta was pithy and to the point: 'priest-ridden'. :D

Imagine, people abusing a position of power as they rule over others, how could such benign benefactors be so corrupted when they are so noble...:p

A view of the situation which would have been shared by many British people not so long ago

I think in honour of the World Cup being in Germany, the UK section ought to be renamed something like 'Inselaffen-Kaefig' for the duration of the competition....
