It's like New Year's Eve man. The Pirates have a pulse.
Freddy Sanchez leads the NL in BA, Jason Bay is having a monster season, finally.
Jose Castillo, Beaner Magic.
Next up, the San Diego Madres.

Och, it's the best sport in the World.
"Take Me Out to the Ballgame", etc...
How can you not like baseball?

I never grew up playing baseball or watching it, so I don't enjoy it. It just seems very slow.
I like basketball, lacrosse and water polo the best.

It's slow-paced, but very fast in spots...:p I love it because I played it and we've had a Major League team here for 120 years. It's overgrown on me.

All good games, although American basketball played at the college and pro levels isn't what it's supposed to be. Better people should play it themselves.

You've got a brutal division to be in, Key. It's pretty sound, top to bottom. Sans a few clubs out there, e.g., Marlins, Royals, there's a great deal of parity, it seems, this year. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't have 4-5 tight pennant races this September.

The way to fall in love with baseball is to go to games or listen to it on the radio. I grew up with the Red Sox games as the backdrop for just about every summer night I can remember. The slow pace is actually nice in that medium because you can be doing other things and still follow the game. That and a couple trips to Fenway could make a baseball fan out of anybody.

I would rather be the guy in Intrepid's avatar than attend a baseball game. :p

Wait, where's your friend? You guys are usually a comedy duo. Oh, right, he's busy reading. So why don't you stay on your side of the Phora, and I won't have to come find you. :bbbat:

It's hard to believe that the Bucs...who started out a mindboggling 6-18...are 4 games over .500 at home. Congratulations, Key.
Hmm. On the other hand, they are 4-22 on the road....better keep the Cristal on ice and pop the Champale instead for now.

Ya the Cards and 'Stros are the premiere clubs. St. Louis is beginning to pull away a bit, though. Let's see if the Crotchety Rocket can add a few wins for Houston...
Cincinnati will fade, I think.
As long as we pull the Scrubbies down into the basement, we'll be happy in the short run :p . We hate them like disease here....
I'd like to end up over .500. that would be great. We may have a chance.

Mets--Braves (Smoltzie has a bad hammy!)
Tigers---ChiSox
All of the NL West.
Should be a great season.

Thanks man. We've lost a lot of close games on the road, too. We rarely got blown out, but just imploded. Frustrating.

I try and not get too excited, but why not? Doesn't cost me anything.
Oliver Perez on the hill tonight against the Madres. Hoping for more Beaner Magic.

Yep.
Baseball resists the hyper hip-hop trash talk urban gladiator speed of light stuff because it has a slower place. They still try to jam things up at games with blaring music, but the game is the same. I go to a lot of Pirates games, and I see lots of kids and young adults there, having a great time. I don't swallow the baseball is boring BS.
Radio and baseball are a natural. I grew up listening to Bob Prince, and am thankful for that.

Yeah, Cincy has no pitching.
I can't believe the Cubbies are playin' so poorly. I know they've had a boatload of injuries to their top guns. Still, when you've got a starting four of Prior, Wood, Maddox and Zambrano, two top-end setup guys and a solid closer you better be playin' .600+% 'ball - this year or last - or something is really wrong. Baker is out of there this summer some time.
When's Casey coming back from the DL?
Mets--Braves (Smoltzie has a bad hammy!)
You hear something more about that? He was supposed to throw tonight, but we got rained out. The 'pen is 14th in the league in ERA and leading it in blown saves. The Mets have a weak 3-5 in their rotation, but nothing like our backend. Glavine and Martinez have been pure money this year.
Tigers---ChiSox

It's shaping up that way. It's nice to see Leyland back in the spotlight in DT.

It's the crack of the bat live...
It's sitting there with your grandfather telling you about sneaking into Wrigley as a kid, or paying a negro kid to watch his car at Commiskey lest it get nicked...
It's laying in bed with a transistor radio to your ear, on a school night, listening to Vin Scully as the Braves got whooped by the Dodgers again...
It's scrambling for a foul ball and chipping your tooth on the steps at Candlestick, while on Summer vacation up in NoCal...
It's that Yankees vs Diamondbacks series in '01 with the Korean kid crying on the mound and Schil and R.J. coming for blood...
It's our game.

LOL.
Ya. It's sitting with your dad at Forbes as a 10 year old and hearing about seeing the Waner brothers and Arky Vaughan and Carl Hubbell pitching right there and the Gas House Gang beating up on the Pirates...

When Vin Scully goes, that's about it for classic baseball.

How old is that guy now?
The few times I've heard him I was blown away at the way he could suddenly turn a routine play in a nothing game into an anecdote about a similar play in 1962.
The old hockey guys are all but gone also - as clearly senile as Howie Meeker was getting, I still miss him on Hockey Night in Canada.

I'm not quite sure how old Scully is, but if you were in the announcing booth for the Brooklyn Dodgers, you have some years on you.
He is a treasure.
