How Tall Are You? I'm 6'1.5 but my Driver's liscense says 6'3.:P

The Average Height in America is 5'9 and for women is 5'3.
The tallest Average Heigh in Any Western European Nation is Holland being 6'1 for men and 5'9 for women.
Sweden Averages 5'11 for men and 5'6 for women.

2.54cm in an inch.

I am slightly over 6'2''. BTW, I think the average height for white males in the US is 5'10'' and a quarter, not 5'9''. I'm too lazy to google it, though.

About 5"11.

If illegals are included in the "American" category (I'm assuming they usually aren't), then the average is likely to drop an inch or so. Virtually every Hispanic I see is sub-6", and most of them are sub-5'9".

And I see many.

Yes, it's crazy prevalent. Most common is the stretching of the 5"10/5"11 folks to 6". The "six" holds some magic to male dominance.

I make a concious effort to call myself 5"11. :p An exercise in honesty.

My dad does that. He's 5'11, but it becomes 6 magically around other people. :)

I chose 6'1" because I'm techniaclly 6 and 3/4's, so I round up.

Interesting tall (male) bias in the poll... why to the >5'6"ers get lumped together when space has been made for the freakishly tall (of which I'm sure we'll have none)

It's just that I figured most people would be taller, if your younger and still growing I apologize.
It's not about being biased or anything I just figured most people would be taller than 5'1. I mean if your shorter and over 18 just say so. No one is going to assume anything.

Honesty is always refreshing. Like I said I say I'm 6'3 on my driver's liscense but am really only 6'1. :p

HTB is female. Many women are under 5'6''. It is far more likely that there will be women in the "under" category than men between 7'3'' and 7'4''.

I was I was just pointing out that you'd made the poll with the implicit assumption that only men would answer. You said yourself that "The Average Height in America is 5'9 and for women is 5'3" and then lumped the 5'6"ers together.

I am (if you couldn't figure out from my girlie user name and avatar) female, haven't grown so much as an inch in about 4 years, and would rather be short than tall, or even average (even if reaching things on high shelves is sometimes an issue).

The male preoccupation with height is quire amusing actually, especially in this day and age when in confers no great advantage.

Two recent studies have shown a relationship between male height and number of offspring in contemporary developed-world populations. One of them argues as a result that directional selection for male tallness is both positive and unconstrained. This paper uses data from a large and socially representative national cohort of men who were born in Britain in March 1958. Taller men were less likely to be childless than shorter ones. They did not have a greater mean number of children. If anything, the pattern was the reverse, since men from higher socioeconomic groups tended to be taller and also to have smaller families. However, clear evidence was found that men who were taller than average were more likely to find a long-term partner, and also more likely to have several different long-term partners. This confirms the finding that tall men are considered more attractive and suggests that, in a noncontracepting environment, they would have more children. There is also evidence of stabilizing selection, since extremely tall men had an excess of health problems and an increased likelihood of childlessness. The conclusion is that male tallness has been selected for in recent human evolution but has been constrained by developmental factors and stabilizing selection on the extremely tall.

Of course it is. Tall corresponds with strong and masculine. What is generally considered the average height for a man?

Helios Panoptes

It varies depending on the country(and other variables), but in the US, I believe about 5'10'' for a white male.

It is common knowledge that Italians undergo puberty twice: the first time as the rest of us do, during adolescence, and the second time within the following decade. The latter is characterized by male pattern baldness, swarthening (the process of acquiring "goopier" looking skin that contains grime between wrinkles and folds), and the sprouting of secondary pubic hair on the monkey nipples, pot belly, and back attack.

It is common for second-timers to receive gold chains from family members. Its purpose is twofold: to remove any doubt of the wearer's devout Catholicism and love of their mustachioed mothers, and also to indicate to the wearer where to stop shaving.

If that happens, maybe I will catch up to normal(except for the balding), because I currently have the complexion and hair distribution of a high elf.
